Chances at UVa, Middlebury, and some Ivies?

I’m going to skip the fanciful introduction and get right down to it. I take all APs and honors. I have gotten 5’s on my previous exams in AP and an 800 on a world history SAT test (still waiting to get back my results from the last tests a few days ago). I’m above average in English, grades wise, but my math is average (low A’s and high B’s). My huge passion is languages. When I say huge passion, I mean HUGE. PASSION. I’m obsessed with them. My dad majored in German at Middlebury College, and I like the school but it’s very small, which is a downside for me.

My extracurriculars are piano (nothing special), but my main “hook” is that I teach myself Chinese outside of school, because my school (private) doesn’t offer it. I have been on 2 intensive immersion programs over the course of two summers, one in Swarthmore and one in Beijing, each four weeks, and each set up through Middlebury. In school I take Spanish (AP) (golds on all of those national exams), but alone I have taught myself Mandarin.

I have a 34 on my ACT and want to bring it higher, but I know it’ll be a reach because my math is terrible. I visited UVa and had meetings there with several deans and professors (my friend’s mother was able to set them up for me because she went there) all of which went really well. I love, love, love UVa but I’ve heard it’s very hard to get into. What are my chances? I’m also interested in Princeton, because I’ve had a lot of family go there. I’m a girl who grew up with a single father in Mississippi, just for some personal background. What are my chances for UVa, Princeton, or Middlebury? 谢谢!

I would say 90% chance of getting into UVa, 65% chance for Middlebury, and 35% chance for Princeton. There are definitely people who would disagree with me, but that’s what I think.

Princeton: 10%
Virginia: 55%
MIddlebury (legacy): 55%

IMO you should concentrate on visiting, and falling in love with, your matches. That’s the real challenge. By all means apply to these three, but the chances of anyone getting in are small. Identify and visit a few that are just a rung down on the prestige ladder.

35% for Princeton?
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but that’s WAY too high.
