Chances at UVA, UNC, Rice

What do you guys think my chances are at UVA, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Rice are?

Hispanic Male
GPA 3.95 UW 4.32 Weighted
Rank: 7/ 464 when I applied. Now I am 4/ 464.
SAT 1300 (650M, 650V)
SAT II: 620, 650, 660
AP US History 4
AP Biology 4

Senior Classes:
AP Micro/Macroeconomics, AP US Government and Politics, College Trigonometry (Dual Enrollment with local community college), AP Spanish Language, AP English Literature, Teacher's Assistant

President of three clubs. Varsity Volleyball. Lots of other ECs. I didn't put anywhere on my application that I have about 400+ hours of community service because I didn't know where to put it. Good Recs. Good Essays.

Also, I am out of state for all these colleges.

What do you guys think? Keep in mind that I am a URM so hopefully that will make up for below average SAT for oos to UVA and UNC. I pretty much know that Rice is a huge reach but I also know that Rice admission is kinda wierd.

Low SATs, high GPA...making me sick here

Can some other people reply? I don't understand the last reply.

UNC Chapel Hill is looking good, but UVA is really selective...almost like Harvard or Yale. I think you have a better chance at Rice than you have at UVA. Your GPA is decent, and your minority status will help with your SAT. I was watching a News Hour (PBS) presentation on the college application review process at Amherst, and it appears that admissions committee consider the SAT a very important factor only for people who have had "a lot of opportunity" as they put it. Basically, they meant that for underrepresented minorities, it does not matter as much as it does for whites or asians, etc.

Thank you for the last post. I am glad that you posted your response as an actual opinion. There are so many people on this site that just give their opinion but make it sound like factual. I think a lot of people on this site don't realize that they are high school students who haven't actually worked in the admissions process.

this board moves way too fast

where do u live, if ur instate, i think ur in good shape for uva or unc (if u live in nc)
if not, i still think u have a chance, but ur sat is low for out of stater, even if ur an urm

The bad news is like many people have pointed out is that UNC and UVA are in-state schools so A. you have to pay a hell of a lota money compared to in state students which would make me jealous lol B. It's like getting into an IVY school b/c they give in state students first consideration. With that said, don't worry though cuz you have good statz. BTW I'm also appyling to Rice. Did yo uapply EA or ED or RD? I applied EA and anxiously awaiting my response from them on Thursday

Xerxes: actually, you have it backwards. UNC is very hard for out-of-staters: about an 18% acceptance rate. Just look at some of the people rejected EA to get an idea. UVA is a bit different, accepting about 39% of out-of-state applicants.

Wisconsin and Michigan are two other state schools where out-of-staters fair decently.

shrugs If you say so. I won't argue with that...I don't have actual facts to support my guess about UVA vs UNC, I was just speaking based upon people I know who got rejected/accepted to either

I am out of state. Also I applied RD to all the schools.

Wow I am already bumped all the way to the fourth page.
