i was also suspended during my freshman year... for computer violations.. but once i talked with a jhu admission officers. he siad that comp violations are no biggie, but still it will be considered. iafter i was deferred, i sent uva a letter explaining in detail about suspension.. and now i am writing another essay.. why iwant to go to uva... any suggestions what else can ii do to suck up? or do u think i am ssafe?

anyone? plzzzzzzzzz

????????????????????????

to be honest i am surprised you got deferred. i know of a lot of people from my school who applied there ed and who had amazing stats. they felt like they got deferred because they were from out of state. i know that they accept a large amount of in state and only 15% out of state.
did u say your courseload?
good luck tho

my courseload? i have 4 ap classes, and i have 6 a's 1 b this year.. i plan to mention that next semester. and yes, they accept 68 % instate and 32 out of state. normally, i hear that they defer almost 75% people out of state. the sat score range for out of state person is very higher than normal ... dont apply unless u have atleast 1400 sat out of state... BTW, u were surprised i got deferred? u think i should have bee accepted? or rejected

from what i had heard, i thought you should have been accepted. i remember someone telling me, as an excuse for not getting in, that uva accepts people from instate even if they are horrible applicants. i based my judgement off of that. i must have been wrong in my assessment.

I think what might've hurt you there is your class rank, which is below 10%. UVA seems to be heavy on grades. Although you have a high GPA, that might not be as impressive due to class rank. At my school, it seems like grades were the main factor. Those who had the most impressive ECs imaginable but did not have that good of grades got deferred. (I'm in-State)

wow. its really comforting to hear that i should have gotten in. my class is very competetive. 120 kids have above 4.0 gpa in my class. wtf? as a result, i dont have good attitude anymore. my grades are better this year. i think i might make it into top 10%. what do u guys think of the suspension? do u think they will excuse it since it wasnt for a big deal and i wrtoe a letter elaboriating it?

I think the suspension can be tricky for UVA - the honor code is a big deal at UVA. If you do a search on the old cc forum, you'll find a thread about a kid last year, in-state Virginia, legacy, with really good stats, who was turned down by UVA apparently because of a suspension in his record. Have you spoken to your school counselor about this? Since you are in-state your counselor is probably the most knowledgeable about how UVA will view the suspension. Maybe your counselor can talk to UVA to see why you were deferred?

do u know what i was suspended for? it was fro computer violations.. just palying games and stuff. i havent talked to my counselor about it, and i dont think she likes me. but i was planning to call uva, and see if they could give me a phone number of a representative from uva in richmond, so i could contact that person and get to know her.. did u say my counselor could technically find out why i was deferred? where is the old cc forum

I'm no expert on UVA admissions, just passing along the little I know. The kid from last year also had a really minor incident leading to his suspension, and I just remember that UVA can be very strict about this stuff.

I think you are much better off having your counselor call UVA (instead of you). If you look on other threads here you'll see that some schools are willing to tell counselors (but not students) why a student was deferred. I don't know if that is the case at UVA or not, but your counselor should know this. You really should talk to your counselor - the counselor might know how UVA has viewed similar suspensions in the past, etc.

The old cc forum is here :http://www.collegeconfidential.com/discus/

Good luck.

have u heard anything about representatives in different places in UVA... someone who u could talk to or something...

i forgot to mention probably... i was deferred from uva under ed. one person with amazing stats was rejected from uva from our school. personally, i believe if anyone should be rejected its me. but i dont want that. anyways, should i assume that if they deferred me instead ofrejecting me, that means that the suspension isnt that important.

whats the next thing that will most likely happen? probably they will waitlist me or accept me right when they mail spring decisions. If i get waitlist, what are my chances? and what number should I be to have a good chance. If there are a lot of people from my school who are applying to UVA, but dont want to go there, is it ok? 50 kids are applying atleast

anyone??????????

bump..................
