Chances at UVa?

I am a student that is in-state and am a part of the Commonwealth Governor School. It is basically like IB, but in my opinion it has a bit more difficulty to it. I have a weighted gpa of 4.45 and am currently ranked 5th out of a class of 441. I have a numerous amount of extra currircular activites and summer activites. A lot of my ECs, volunteer activities, and summer camps relate to medicine because I ultimately want to be a doctor. I was a member of the 2010 VA Boys State, which is something that colleges like to see. My SAT, however, is the only thing thats drawing me back. I have a total score of 1810 with a 570 in reading and 640 in math. I know its absolutely horrible and I am definetly not proud of myself but it was the best I could do. I also heard UVa is one of the leading colleges in taking consideration of the full application and not just focus on the SAT score.

I am posting this because my level of concern became higher when I didn't get the "likely" letter that UVa sent out to some of the applicants. About 3 kids in my school got it. I realize that about 90% of the applicants don't get it, but it still brings on worry.

Be completely honest with me, I don't want to have my hopes high when my application is actually weak. UVa is my top choice, but i already got into the scholars program at the University of Maryland and plan to go there if I don't get into UVa.

I think you have as fair a chance as anyone, just wait a few more weeks. Win or lose, everything will be okay.

OMG, YOU DID NOT GET A LIKELY LETTER?!? YOU ARE DOOOOOMMMMED! PACK YOUR BAGS FOR EAST PODUNK UNIVERSITY NOW! … (just kidding!)

Seriously, don’t stress out so much. You’re correct, most applicants don’t get a LL…the adcoms are still reading (so it’s possible they have not even read your application yet! We, the CC community, don’t really have any way of knowing that).

You’re basic stats appear to be in order (lower SAT score aside), but without seeing your entire application and without knowing the precise thinking of the adcoms, none of us are really equipped to tell you one way or another. It wouldn’t be fair for us to tell you that you’ll be fine when we really can’t say. I know this isn’t comforting, but what is done is done, and you’ll have a final answer in a couple of weeks.
