What is the probability that a New Yorker GPA 3.9, SAT 1280 very competitive school, very competitive courses, MANY EC reaches, 1500 hours of community service, AMAZING Recs and amazing essays will get into UVA?

ur chances look good for those 30% out of state admitted applicants, dunno the probability tho

wooa forgot to mention sumthing....this is really why i asked, im applying to the nursing school, im a male.

hah, i dont know the actual male to female ratio of admitted applicants to the school of nursing, but being a male i think would help. hopefully sum1 else with better knowlede of this can help. u should definantly check this out on their site.

From what I see, and I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but your school doesn't seem that competitive. I think that your SAT scores are too low for an out-of-state person. Only if you DO have amazing recs and essays, I think you'll get in. Good luck!

Your SAT is very low for an out of stater. Extreme Reach. Bear in mind, admissions for OOS are comparable to weaker ivies.

Didn't mean to sound too negative, they may really appreciate your nice EC's and volunteer hours.

ya i realize my SAT scores are low for an OOS but i was wondering if the male in the nursing school bears any weight

I doubt it.

glucose why do u say my school isnt competitive?

Your GPA looks inflated, especially with that SAT. It isn't like a BAD BAD score, but if the school is competitive, I'd expect a higher score. Of course, you might not test well, but if that is the case, kiss competitive colleges good-bye. That is my take.

no offense, but thats a pretty bad conclusion. My GPA isnt inflated, in fact colleges dont even need to adjust it. I did very well in my AP's and usually keep around an A- in everything else.

you cant make a judgement like that based on 1 student big guy.

btw, my senior class is pretty intelligent, we raised the schools average SAT score sumwhere between 50 and 100 points. We just had 5 students accepted into columbia, 3 into Notre Dame, 2 into Yale, 7 into Georgetown and some others i dont remember right now

Ok...if you don't get into UVA, we'll know why.

you know, for sum1 who should be here to offer constructive advice...ur doing a pretty bad job

and yea that wasnt a typo....7 into Georgetown

I'm just saying, as andrw313 did also, your scores just don't add up to UVA's caliber.

really? it seemed as if you decided to talk down about the competitiveness of my school and not really look into much else....while andrw313 did...which i appreciate, thanx fella

The only NY kid I know who got into UVA (and who wasn't a soccer or lacrosse player) was a young lady who got into the Nursing School. Her SAT stats were a bit lower then the other kids in our district who applied to Arts and Sciences (my d was one of those kids). So you may have an interesting mix that could help you get into UVA. I do hope you have EC's that relate to nursing or the health profession. Some kids may think it is easier to gain admittance to UVA by applying to the nursing school and UVA is probably sensitive to that. As long as your background shows a true interest in nursing, I think you have a good shot. But UVA is VERY difficult for an OOS to get into. Male- nursing student from NY may add a bit of diversity- which colleges LOVE. Good luck.

ya i actually have ALOT lol....i shadowed a CEN this summer which is wut a wrote about as to why wanted to be a nurse, and i also have 1600 hours of riding time on an ambulance, in addition to alot of other certifications and other health related clubs and stuff

I think you got a good shot. Good luck- but please, please, please do not count on it. Have a bunch of good back ups. In NY I know U. Buffalo has nursing and Stony Brook is big in the health professions. I don't know for sure if they have a nursing program, but my guess is that they do.
