Ok....I know I don't have an impressive record and I AM out-of-state, so here goes...

-SAT: 1300
-GPA: 3.97 weighted
-Drum major - marching band, several years
-out-the-rear community involvement/volunteering/leadership roles
-a promised, glowing recommendation from family friend in VA state legislature
-AP Bio, AP US Hist, AP Calc AB...all those not AP either bands, foreign langs, or honors (just not AP) classes
-Beta Club, Tri-M Music Honor Soc, Science Club
-Top 8% of class...~31/424
-out-of-state (NC)
-caucasian male

Thanks...and if you say "no," please give somewhat of an explaination....

Like oldman says, your SATs will hold you back a bit, but hey, write good essays and you should have as much a chance as the average out-of-stater. Which is slim, but still there. :P Did you apply ED?

I think you have a shot but it will be difficult. You're class rank is excellent and UVa prefers to generally take people in top 10%. As the others have said your SAT's are low for out-of-state. Your GPA could be a bit low depending on how your school calculates weighted GPA. Good luck

was also wondering about my chances...SAT 1540, math 790, verbal 750 SAT 2 writing 790 Math 1C 740. literature 700 out of state GPA 4.8 weighted athletics
8 varsity letters, 3 JV letters , NHS grades 11,12 have held a full time summer job for 3 years...organized a successful fundraiser for a childhood disability, was all set to apply to another college, vivited UVA and loved it so applied early...fingers crossed

date is moved up again.....guess we will know something before Thanksgiving now..that way if I get rejected or deferred I have more time to work on sending some other apps off

Applied EA to JMU
Applying RD to UVA, Tech, George Mason, UNCW, Christopher Newport

Please tell me my chances at each, and your reasoning. Thanks.

UVA - Massive reach, class rank too high, GPA and SAT too low
Tech - Match /reach (depending on your chosen major and GPA a little bit low)
George Mason - match
UNCW - safety
Christopher Newport - match

You have a good mix of schools, remember that college admissions is very odd sometimes so its often hard to predict. As I see it your biggest negative is your class rank, not being in the top 25% will not look good to colleges. You have a good number of extracurriculars which looks good. You'll probably get into your safety and most of your matches.
Good Luck!
