I live in CA and go to an extremely small, poor, public school where most everyone stays in-state.
Can you tell me my chances at University of Vermont, and especially my chances at any scholarships? Thanks in advance!

Your chances look very good but I am not an admissions officer - I believe UVM has several scholarships that are based on stats and that this information should be on their website or available through their admissions office. My son was sent a VIP application the summer of his senior year and was told quite early in September or early October that he was accepted (non-binding). He was awarded a scholarship for 4 years, and it was based on, I believe, his SATs.....but he elected not to go there (non-binding EA). This is very far and a big change in climate for you - have you been to VT or to UVM? Do you ski???! (just kidding you).

Actually, I love skiing! I know the climate is incredibly different than the CA Bay Area's, but I want to go somewhere with seasons and I would love to be close to a ski hill. The website isn't specific about the stats required for the out-of-state scholarships...does anyone who's gone to UVM know?

Check out this link:

Are you thinking of playing a varsity sport?
Also, the weather is not as bad as the rest of Vermont as it is on Lake Champlain, which warms it up a bit, but also makes downtown Burlington somewhat windy!
The ski hills are called mountains and there are many nearby. Good luck!

I would only plan on planning intramurals...I'm good at volleyball but not spectacular, and I don't plan on continuing basketball. The main thing I'm wondering is whether or not my stats will be good enough for scholarship consideration. Anyone have any personal experience there?

One other thing - class rank. I'm in the top 4%, which in my case means #1 (small school). This also qualifies me for UC admission, but I want to look at public schools out of my state too.

Vermont? In easily, probably full ride+honors program. It's an ok, decent east coast state school. My friend's bro goes there. Why is it you want to go there over any UCs?

I would prefer to attend a colllege farther away from home. I definitely don't want to pass up the in-state tuition for the UC system, though, so I'm going to apply to a mix of different schools. You really think I might be able to get a full ride + honors at UVM? The only real setback with applying to places out-of-state is the price.
