- Started an honors society project (not in my schools honor society, but I decided to help lead one anyways)
Essay: My essays are really really strong, I’ve asked multiple people and they said my essay will be the reason I’m getting in. I asked an expert on college essays and she told me it showed my true passion and was beautifully written.
OOS from Nevada
Major: Pre-Health Sciences.
Strengths: My GPA isn’t too bad, I would say its decent. My EC’s are pretty good. My essay is really good.
Weaknesses: My courseload and my test scores.
I just realized.
My Freshmen UW GPA: 3.77
Sophomore UW GPA: 3.75
Junior UW GPA: 3.3
Senior UW GPA: 3.75
I think if I explain why my junior year and how I got really sick because I have an auto immune deficiency and have a loss of white blood cells so I get sick way more often than normal, so if I get rejected I need to tell that that without junior year my UW GPA was an average of 3.75.
Do you think UW will notice that about my GPA?
Honestly, I don’t think the 3.3 looks very good because junior year is pretty critical for admission decision. I’ve heard that a lot of schools don’t even consider freshman and maybe some even sophomore year for their decisions. Maybe if you have a really compelling way of explaining it, then the 3.3’s impact might be reduced, but definitely don’t make it sound like a sob story.
But yeah your ECs definitely help a lot I’ve heard from some people who used to be involved in the admissions office at UW and they said UW really likes community service, and 3.56 GPA isn’t terrible (I have the same lol, I just posted another chance thread). I’d say just your test scores are the issue here.
With those test scores it’ll be really tough, although I do have a friend who got in two years ago with a 3.3ish GPA and 15xx (old) SAT, in-state. He had killer essays as well. I hope you get in.
@halcyonalcyone Prayers are needed from you lmao please.
Bump. Update: I forgot to mention, I’ve never had a C, D, or F. Only A’s and B’s. Had more A’s than B’s freshmen and sophomore year, but then junior year screwed my GPA up because 2 of my electives I took didn’t count towards my GPA. I took study hall and student aide which is a pass/fail grade. I got a pass.
Hopefully you were able to explain on your app why your GPA was lower junior year! I talked to a rep from UW a couple months ago at a college fair and he told me that when it comes down to it, GPA is definitely the most important thing that they look at on your application. Your ECs sound good and essays are important so thats good that you made them really solid. Your test scores is def the most concerning - but hopefully your essays and ECs can wow them enough to make up for it! Also, does your school not offer many APs? Because if that is so, the school will take that into consideration and not penalize you for not taking any APs. Good luck!!
@CollegeBndGrl28 Unfortunately no, I was not able to explain on my app why my GPA was lower :(. And no my school does offer mainly the normal AP classes, like AP Biology, APUSH, AP Gov, AP English, etc… My school is a private school so it does have more difficult courses so I’m hoping they notice that. I’ve tried to sign up for APUSH, and AP English Language but I never got in.
I know, my chances just based on my stats don’t sound so good. However, I truly believe my personal statement will wow them. My personal statement shows a struggle I dealt with throughout my entire high school life, it shows how I helped to overcome it by volunteering in regards to that issue, and most importantly my essay shows my passion and my career I want to pursue due to this issue.
And my EC’s are good, so I have a lot of hope, I’ve talked to multiple people who attend UW, and I’ve talked to friends of mine and they think I’m getting in, they all said “even though your stats aren’t up to par your essay is really good.”
Pray for me please GOOD LUCK!
