Chances at UW - freshman

Hey,

I just submitted my freshman application for winter 2012, and I also plan on applying for fall 2012 if I don't get in this coming winter :(

Here is a quick run down...

Graduated from a WA high school with a 3.488. I know a 3.48 is pretty poor, but it has a strong upward trend (my freshman year was I believe a 2.9, followed by a 3.1, and it just went up from there).

I did running start for 1.5 years, approx 55 credits @ 3.80GPA.

Here is my weakest link ... my ACT was 25 :( I took it one time in Oct 2009, and didn't study for it, I planned on retaking it, but never got around to it.

EC's (took a few years off in between graduating high school, and applying to college)

EMT-Paramedic for a busy metropolitan government 911 emergency service (the city is about 484,000 people) full time (48 hours/week), and I also have a part time job with another busy 911 service (12 - 24 hours/week).
I went down to Louisiana for the BP oil spill and was a para-rescue specialist out on the water.
Psychology tutor at the CC for 2 quarters (volunteer 12hrs/week)
Research at a top 25 university on the cost of gun shots in a lifelong model.
Then some of the usual, soccer team X3 years, VP of spanish club, track team, etc.

Thanks!

I think you have a solid chance. UW looks the applicant as a whole. Plus, you GPA is not bad at all. You have pretty strong GPA from your running start. Your EC’s look strong. If you wrote a fantastic personal statement, then that would be a tremendous help as well!

I hope you get in :)

Both your gpa and act don’t seem to be in your favor, but your EC’s are great. Your upward trend should be a plus too. Make sure to write a good, no, your best college essay and you should have a shot at UW. Good luck, I’m applying there as well.
