Chances at Various VA Schools

Hey guys. I was hoping someone could chance me because I’m really nervous about applying to college in the fall. Thank you in advance.

SCHOOLS:
-James Madison University (JMU)
-Christopher Newport University (CNU)
-Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)
-University of Virginia (UVA)
-Virginia Tech

ACADEMIC FACTS
I have about a 3.3 unweighted GPA and about a 3.6 weighted GPA. I took my first AP class this year (AP English Language and Composition) but I plan on taking AP Biology and AP English Literature senior year.
I got a 1900 on my SAT and a 1280 CR+M.
I do not know my class rank at the moment and I’m not even sure what it’d be because I go to a very competitive school.

CLASSES
Math: Honors Algebra 1 (passed with a B+), Honors Geometry (passed with a C+), Honors Algebra 2 (passed with a C+), Regular Precalc (predicted to pass with a B- )
English: Honors English 9 (passed with an A), Honors English 10 (passed with an A), AP Lang (predicted to pass with a B)
Science: Honors Biology (passed with a B+), Honors Chemistry (passed with a C+), Regular Physics (predicted to pass with a B)
History: Honors World History 1 (passed with an A), Honors World History 2 (passed with an A-), Honors US History (predicted to pass with a B+)
Foreign Language: Spanish 1 (passed with a B), Spanish 2 (passed with a B- ), Spanish 3 (passed with a B- )

EXTRACURRICULARS
Writing Club (freshman year), Key Club (sophomore year), School’s Lit. Magazine (sophomore and junior year), Girl Scouts (10 years, bronze and silver award), and I do some volunteering.

FUTURE PLANS
I plan to major in Biology and I plan to get more involved in college. I want to go into the medical field, specifically genetics and research.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and even more thanks for chancing me.

Have a good day!

I say you’re in at VCU, JMU, and CNU. Maybe VA Tech. Probably not UVA.

Are you instate or out-of-state for Virginia? I don’t see anything expressly addressing that, and your residency status will be important in the admissions question.

In state

UVA really looks closely at your transcript. They say they don’t care about your GPA as such, but they want to know how hard your classes were, what classes were available at your school, and how you did compared to your classmates in the same school. You can actually use your class rank as a fairly good proxy for a lot of this. If you’re in the top 10% of your class, you’d have a good shot at UVA. But with 3 C’s (and no A’s at all) in math and science courses, that suggests it is probably out of reach for you.

Actually, with no A’s in HS math or science courses, you don’t have great prospects to get in to any science graduate school programs down the road. You would need to do MUCH better in college than your HS courses predict.

VT is borderline for you. You’ll probably get in to JMU. Your safeties are CNU and VCU.

JMU, VCU, CNU are all good picks. Add UMW and either ODU or Longwood, plus Randolph, Randolph-Macon, perhaps if you go a bit further away Guilford, Ursinus, Loyola Maryland, Washington College, UNC Charlotte or UNC Wilmington, UDel.
