Chances at Wake Forest

Wake forest has been my favorite college since about ninth grade. Currently i am almost done with my junior year, and the realization that i may not get in is starting to catch up with me. I did a little bit of research, and from what i’ve gathered the average gpa is around a 3.9. I have a 3.5 gpa, and just took my first act. I know my academics are subpar, however i am taking mostly honors/AP classes. I am also an Eagle scout, VP for my school DECA chapter (in charge of community service), have my own charity, (I will have about 300+ hours of community service altogether when i apply), member of the stockmarket club, i do varsity winter and spring track, and i have a part time job. I was wondering if i still have a shot at Wake. I understand Wake is a very competitive school academically, however i always assumed they were the kind of school that looks at the whole picture, and grades their applicants holistically. I will be visiting the school this May, and will be scheduling, if that helps me at all. If you don’t think i would get in, what can i do to improve my chances?

Hey! I got into Wake this year with a lower GPA than you. (I think a 3.46 UW but may be higher now with senior year grades.) I think you have a chance. My best advice would be invest in an ACT/SAT tutor and kill the SAT/ACT to make yourself stand out. Also, I didn’t do hot my freshman and sophomore years but had an upward spiral my senior and junior years, so try to boost your GPA now while you can, they like upward trends. Also, it is easier to get in Wake if you apply ED. Make sure you do an interview and kill it, also focus on your essays. And communicate the student you are to Wake Forest. Stay motivated and you have a shot.

  1. Tulane- reach school. I was deferred than denied
  2. Elon- Match school- think you would get in
  3. Miami- You would probably get in
  4. UVA- reach school but never give up

Thanks so much for your reply. After some thought, i think i will be applying to wake ED, and will be visiting this July. I know it’s a crapshoot, and i probably don’t have the best chances, but it’s worth applying.

@icejjfish Hey btw I forgot to ask you, was that gpa weighted or unweighted? Was it out of 4, or something else? What about your ECS
