Chances at Wake Forest

I will have great rec's from teachers that I have close relationships with. I interview quite well and my essays should be good.

So what do you think?

im glad someone on this board is considering wake, and i believe you would stand an excellent chance.

How could anyone not want to attend Wake? :) A beautiful campus in a cute city, great academics, personal attention at the perfect size, and Deamon Deacon basketball? What more could you ask for?!

the campus is very new, but to me it lacked tradition...

Lacked tradition? Really? It was the most tradition-filled campus I visited!

Wake was just chocked full of quirky traditions. Like TPing the quad after a win? That sounds like a great time. They explained to us that it came from when Wake once beat Duke (way back in the day), and Duke was bitter and came over to TP the campus. Wake heard about it, so they decided to beat Duke to it by TPing themselves. When Duke arrived, they were shocked and ****ed. The tradition lived on into modern day.

They had lots of other cool traditions too, like that each advisor has his students over for dinner during the first semester to get to know each of them personally. Plus, they were FILLED with school spirit--the school only has 4,000 students, and 2,900 of them are in the Screamin' Deacons fan club that goes to all the sports games!

For me, it just felt like the right place.

what do you think his chances are with his current scores?

Mine are within that same range, except i have 8 AP's by graduation and have very very solid EC's 1500 hours of comm service.

Im also from NY which i was told helps me a tad for Southern Schools.

Were you referring to me when you said "his chances"? I'm a girl. :)

My school only offers a total of 10, so I've taken 70% of them. The only ones I didn't take were in math, my least favorite subject, and also the only subject I am not currently on the most rigorous path in. I'm from California, so I also get a bit of a boost for Southern schools, although not much (I don't suppose NY gives you much of a boost either as it's such a highly populated state).

Also I have over 3000 hours of community service including my unpaid work hours and the time I have spent with my church and coaching the middle school swim team--I also attend many walks and runs for cancer research in my area and volunteer for many of them; this week I'm attending a walk for Katrina, which adds a few more service hours in there.

Sorry, I got a bit defensive. :)

Anyway, if I have a good chance, so do you.

didnt mean anythin by that

idk i guess my volunteer hours are different. I have 1500 hours of being on an ambulance...so i guess plus all the other stuff is somewhere like yours.

I just got back from New Orleans, my squad volunteered to go down and help triage and do basic first aid. Some crazy stuff down there.

That's awesome, Doogie. It's cool that you got to go help out. I donated a lot of money, but that's not quite the same :)

Bumpity bump...anyone else?

When i say lack tradition i meant not necessarily the school, but more the campus. Wake Forest moved to the reynolda campus in Winston-salem in the 1950's, prior to that the Wake Forest University was in Wake Forest, NC. The campus has beautiful architecture, maybe a better word isn't tradition, but maybe history???

I suppose that's true, but it doesn't bother me. The campus was gorgeous, one of my favorites. All brick buildings and magnolia trees and gardens and clock towers and all of that other wonderful collegiate stuff. I didn't feel that it suffered because a bunch of dead white guys didn't attend class in exactly the same spot. :)

Anyway, any other opinions?
