Okay, I have posted this same thread before, but I would like some input.

I want to go to Wash U in St. Louis and am applying for the Summer Scholars program there this summer. Does it help or hurt my chances of admission to the university since I live in St. Louis??

My Stats:

Rank: 1/415
GPA: 4.0 unweighted...4.265 weighted
White Male
Go to non competitive public high school which sucks. We can't take AP classes until junior year, and even then just one: AP US History. So far, I've had Hon Geometry Fresh. year, Hon Adv. Algebra Soph year, Hon. Precalc, Hon. Spanish III, and Hon. AP US History this year. Next year I want to load up my schedule with AP/hon. classes.

I also expect to hold offices in these organizations next year.

Other schools I want to apply to:

Cornell
U. of Illinois - Urbana
University of Missouri - Rolla

****Um...any other schools I should consider???*****

I want to go into math/engineering...not sure yet

I read your stats, and I thought...Oh, he's a thespian. Then I saw that you wanted to do math/engineering. I think that's a great thing to do...but have you taken Calc BC? Usually that's a highly suggested course for incoming engineering/math students. Also, do you have any other math-related ECs or awards? AIME? I'll bet you do math competitions/tests at Mu Alpha Theta, as well--you'll probably want to play those up, right?
Two final suggestions:
1. If you are unsatisfied with your school's courseload/course rules, then try taking a summer class at the community college. Or, try doing AP self study. If you get accepted at the WUSTL program, that will probably help as well.
2. I have a GC who stresses that you should take the SAT and the ACT twice, just to see how things go. Your ACT is strong, but a boost couldn't hurt, either, esp. since you want to go to WUSTL.
lastly...take my suggestions with a grain of salt. i'm no expert, but i like trying to help.

Heh thanks :D

No, that's one bad thing about our school...and our district. I'm taking Calc (AB) next year. Had I had a competent teacher 7th grade (seriously...ugh) I would be taking that now. I'm on the highest math track =/ I go to a school with about 95% URM (African American)

We have a Mu Alpha Theta but its such a joke...We do nothing math related -_-...And we have no AIME.

that was something i didn't know from your first posting. maybe you should explain to WUSTL about the special circumstances at your school; they would probably be more understanding and forgiving, esp. since you're in the city and they probably know your school.
i talked to an admissions person @ Georgetown the other day, and i was told that admissions staff will take your school course offerings into account. if your school doesn't offer, like, 25 APs, then they're not going to expect you to have taken a zillion. the policy might be similar at WUSTL.

Yeah, I hope so. I'm pretty sure they'll know my school too. :P

I read somewhere else on this site (check under the ivy posts for wusl) that wusl is high on diversity, both ethnic and geographical. Local and state admissions are around 6% of the total..... a very low number. They prefer out of state and international. There's still a chance if you are an outstanding student with a "wow" factor.

You sound great!

We should be friends,
I truly believe in making connections early on in life...

Friendships are foundations for fun!

Haha thanks :P Bump!!

ur act is pretty low for washu. i dont think living in STL matters that much

i disagree. i know of two people who have been accepted into Wash U (that live in STL, actually) with an ACT of under a 27...however, they're both minorities and have parents that attended wash u...i'm not sure about their other stats though.

Yeah thats why I am retaking it...I want to get at least a 33.

Unfortunately I'm not a minority :(

Aaaaand, bump again! =/
