Chances at Washington & Lee

Applying EDII. I was going to apply EDI to University of Richmond, but decided against it after they raised their tuition by $8,000! I visited Princeton, Georgetown, U. Richmond, W&L, Duke, William & Mary, and UVa last April. I fell in love with W&L instantly. The school just gives me a really good feeling, and a lot of that comes from the Honor System.

Here are some stats:
SATI: M: 710 V: 700
SATII: Writing: 780 Literature: 650 Math1C: 650
ACT: English: 33. M,R,S: 28. Composite: 29 (only took once... could definitely have done better, but oh well.)
3.6 unweighted GPA, in all Honors and AP classes.
GREAT teacher recommendations and an AMAZING peer recommendation which I had the chance to read for myself. The kid who wrote it got accepted to Amherst '09 ED.

EC's/awards:
Running my own computer repair business
Music (play piano, bass guitar, guitar, trombone)
Photography (incl. various awards)
Volunteering (incl. spending all next summer in Guatemala City with the Safe Passage program [www.safepassage.org])
Math team (Co Captain)
Debate team (Co Captain)
"Inkwell" (Student literary magazine)
Varsity Baseball, Golf, Alpine Skiing
Won 8th grade district spelling bee ;-)
Elected to Verizon's "Leaders of Tomorrow" by my business teacher and invited to semiannual "Eggs and Issues" breakfast.

Oh yeah, and I'm from MAINE! I don't think they get too many lobstah-eating applicants...

If anyone who's been accepted in the past or knows anyone who's applied would like to comment on my chances, that would be great!

I think you have a really good shot; be careful about early deicion however, if you are in financial trouble. If W & L doesn't give you the money you want, you could be in trouble. BEST OF LUCK

Thanks.

ALso, I started the Young Conservatives Club at a really liberal high school, and I won 2nd place in the Maine State Science fair for an independent research project as a Sophomore... should help.

By the "formula," my family should get NO financial aid. I think it depends on the school, but pretty much I'll be paying near full price wherever I go. I really want to go to W&L, so ED seemed to be a good choice.

What is the "formula" for financial aid? I am looking at very expensive ($40,000 level) colleges, and my family is definitely looking for financial aid.

I think the FAFSA has a calculator online that will tell you what your "expected family contribution" is.
