I’m currently a junior at a competitive high school in Pennsylvania and wondering about my chances at Washington University in St. Louis. I have a 34 ACT, will have a 4.0 unweighted gpa and a 5.0 weighted after junior year. Also, i’m pretty sure that I’ll be a national merit semifinalist. I have taken all honors throughout sophomore and freshman year and four ap classes junior year. Next year I will be taking 5 ap classes. Also, I have taken two science classes sophomore year and two ap science classes junior and senior year. For extracurriculars I am in the national honors society and I am the an officer of four different community service clubs. With one of the clubs I fundraised and went to Nicaragua to build a school. I am also an officer of the speech and debate team and I am a freshman mentor. I am looking to go into biology at WashU. Sorry for all of the info, but I would love it somebody could give me some advice about my chances at WashU.
Grades and test scores are good, although I might try for perhaps and ACT score around 35. But that’s my opinion and you don’t need to take. 34.
ECs are fine. Do you have additional volunteer hours besides the NHS mandated ones?
Current class load?
Reach/low reach. My advice is if WashU is your top choice, start showing the interest ASAP. Set up a visit, contact your local admissions officer, visit a presentation, and consider ED.
Is your intention to go on the pre-med track? If so try to do some medical shadowing or something similar. If there are opportunities to do science research, go for it since you don’t have science ECs, which aren’t absolutely necessary, but would be helpful.
You are a competitive applicant. Your stats are good and your ECs are decent. Write great essays and you could get accepted to Washu
