I'm a female high school senior at an all girls school in NY. I have a good list of about 8 schools, but Wes is definitely a top choice for me. Do I have a good chance? I know it's a reach, but I still want a better idea of where I stand. Thanks so much!

I’m applying to Wes for this year too so I can’t chance you, but you are really amazing! The Writer’s Retreat stands out as a great accomplishment.

also, make sure you call admissions and are sure you are registered for their students of color visits. I would also let them know that Wes is your first choice… If Wes truly is, as it was with my son, going ED could seal the deal. You have nothing to lose and everything to win with ED. If financially the numbers dont work, you can opt out of ED, but WES is very generous for those with demonstrated need. The EFC calculator at collegeboard was spot on for us.

Your Sat is below-the-line, but your URM status is good for 200+ points which would put you over the top. If you applied ED it would likely seal the deal.

i had the same sat score (2140…640CR 760M 740W…your breakdown is much better than mine though cause my CR score is well below average), I’m ethnic (italian, lebanese, chinese-trinidadian), and i also do martial arts, hahah. i applied ED2 and got in. i still don’t know if i would have gotten in had i not done ED2. I think I would’ve gotten waitlisted (coming from my school in MA, anyway).
your stats look really solid, though. if you really like wes, definitely apply ED. it helps you out quite a bit.
btw i love it here!!! applying ED2 was the best choice i ever made (it was quite a spontaneous choice, too)

i would apply ED, but my parents and i aren’t sure it’s the right thing to do financially, and we’d like to avoid doing anything binding. do you guys think i stand a decent chance for RD?

Wesleyan says that they don’t necessarily prefer ED, just that the ED pool is generally a lot stronger than the general application pool. Now, I’m not 100% sure I believe this, but I wouldn’t apply ED if money’s an issue. I didn’t apply ED anywhere because of the finaid considerations. However, I’m pretty sure you can get out of ED decisions if it’s a money/finaid issue. Not positive but I think so. In that case, if you’re positive Wes is your clear first choice, there’s not a lot of downside unless you want several finaid offers and it could come down to a few thousand dollars.
