"I want to go to a school with a top premed program, namely Brown and Washington Uuniversity in St Louis. I'm also looking into JHU. My stats

Junior, NJ, private
SAT I: 750 M/800 R/770 W
SAT IIs: Math IIC 780/ Spanish 760/ World History 740

GPA: 3.83 (unweighted)

AP Courses taken so far:
Psych
Chem
Bio
Stats

I think I did reasonably well on the AP tests this year, expecting 5's in bio and chem but maybe a 4 in stats cuz No. 6 confused me. I got a 5 in Psych.

ECS:
10-year piano experience (no awards though)
Volunteer at local library reading books to young children...about 3 hours a week
Volunteer at senior center..about 4 hours/week
Private tutor in math..two days/week
Tennis player (varsity)

Planning to do science research..maybe a project?.. over the summer

I know that's not much, but I commit a lot to my activities. I hope to accomplish more throughout the summer.

One more question: Which is harder to get into? JHU or WUSTL? My friend says WUSTL cuz they had over 22,000 apps this year or something."

WUSTL is harder to get into than JHU. Both Brown and WUSTL are pretty comparable in terms of selectivity...both are pretty hard to get into as it is, and both are getting more and more applications each year.

Your activities seem fine. It is far better to dedicate yourself to a few activities rather than too many. My son who is going to be a junior at Wash U main focus was tutoring and music.

your stats (esp. your gpa) are a little better than mine, and i got in. then again, a kid from my school who had stats more similar to yours, a better gpa and more awards and was also a star athlete, but with lower SATs, was waitlisted, so you never know. i'd say you're ok.

As far as your stats, you'll completely within range to be accepted. Just make sure that the admissions dept knows you actually want to go. Visit, interview, etc.

What can you do to improve your chances on getting into WashU? As every one on this board has said numerous times: Show interest. Show lots of interest. Check out WashU's website (http://www.washu.edu/). Request information. Get on WashU's mailing and e-mailing lists. Visit the campus. Have an interview. Stay overnight on campus if you can. Visit the department in which you have an interest. If WashU has a presentation in your area or your school, go, and make sure you talk to the presenter and say how interested you are in WashU.
