Chances at Yale, JHU, Columbia, NYU, MIT, Tufts

this is my second posting, didnt recieve lots of feedback last time...
my stats are below...
Took SAT 1 Once: got 2080
Took ACT once: 34 (Submitting this score)
SAT II: Math IIC:800, Chem:770 (submitting these for all SAT IIs required

I have 4 APs (school only offers seven, and we only had 2 until this year, and I couldn't take AP Bio n Chem at same time)
AP US History-4
AP Chem
AP Literature and Composition
AP Calculus BC
All my other classes are all honors

My school has VERY FEW extracirruiculars (we are the 2nd graduating class), so I don't have many, I can't do many extracirruclars because my parents work from liek 8 am to 12 am, and I have to watch my two younger sisters...some are
Volunteer at a hospital

Science Fair

Awards:
Voted Math and Physics Scholar
AIME qualifier

GPA: Weighted: 3.8, Unweighted: 3.7...have great foward progress went for a 2.8 to a 3.9...

And if anyone knows what regents are, my regents avg is 93, got 99 on US History, 96 on physics (highest in school), 93 Math A and B, 95 Global History, 94 Eng Regents, all 90s+ except Spanish

I also have great recommendations, math and physics recs span 2 pages each, and my physics rec comes for a MIT and Princeton graduate, also awesome outside recs from a Texas Tech professor, and Tufts professor... I also think I have a good essay, my AP Eng teacher said so....

so what are my chances at
Columbia -2nd
MIT -3rd
Sophie Davis-1st choice
Yale-4th
NYU-6th
John Hopkins-5th
tufts

also have some moderates and safeties...St.Johns, Binghamton, Stonybrook....

Just curious, what would be my chances at each school (if you could do a percentage, Id really love you for it)...Thanks for all the help

your SAT 1 is a little low, but i am a strong believer in SAT's not meaning everything. The ivies are clearly reaches but the others look like relatively good matches and high safeties. Good luck!!!

What is Sophie Davis? Why is it your first choice... I've never even heard of it??

Or am I just ... stupid?

Yale - slim chance
JHU - good chance
Columbia - OK chance
NYU-in
MIT-slim chance
Tufts -in

ur fully weighted gpa is too low..yale and columbia and mit no chance
but nyu and tufts safety due to high act =D

Sophie Davis is one pof those 7year med programs...its CUNY, but very competetive.

yea sophie davis has a guareented MD 7yr program, no MCATs but u gotta pass their test, which is identical to MCATs..but its very cheap, only $4000 a yr for NY residents...im going 2 be a doctor so thats y its my first choice...its tough to get into...3 essays 2 pgs each!!!

im not submitting sats...submitting acts, and according to collegeboard a 34 is around 2300...but i still think MIT, yale n columbia r reaches...

iftiarc ur act is fine its just ur gpa...because the schools u r applying for have people who have the same act as u but also have better gpas
good luck though and still apply =D

"iftiarc ur act is fine its just ur gpa...because the schools u r applying for have people who have the same act as u but also have better gpas

darkhope, i know, its just that went I entered the school, few teachers actually knew me and didnt think I was worth a 95+, so they gave me bunch of 80s and 85s, but then they got to knew me and gave me the grade I deserved...but i can't do anythin about it, PLUS SPANISH ISN'T MY THING...its the only thing on my transcript below 90....

reject from yale, columbia, mit

innocentstalker1- wat about others? i was kind of expecting a rej from those three anyways, just hoping my essay will give me a boost

unless you have a killer essay, essays typically are the least important component of the application. so i would not bet on the "boost"

essays are the least important?? I doubt that

judy1688 doubt all you want

if true then good for moi

i thought essays were imp...just as imp as grades, considering every1 applying to yale, columbia, mit, and such, basically all my schools have good grades, its the essay that makes you stand out.

Well essays are seen after they take a look at your numbers and activities. In many cases, if the numbers are just too low, they'll trash your app before getting to your essay. Essays are like the second major criteria for the committees to evaluate you as a person and it's a chance to get to know something about you. Essays are as important as grades, but you can't have a great essay without first having the necessary grades. Unless you're President Bush's daughter.

karot- do u believe i have the grades to pass the first part of the application for yale, columbia, mit, then? id rather get rej after a good evaluation not a QUICK one...

i just realized that I might be still able 2 apply to Duke, do I stand a decent chance...not a big reach, but say around 50-50 for DUKE?
