CHANCES AT YALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(Just trying to get your attention, haha)

Hi, I’m Chinese and I go to a public high school in the Bay Area (I know, I know). I was born in China and am a Chinese citizen. I speak Chinese, English, and Spanish (learned in high school).

2240 New SAT I
790 US History SAT II
760 Math SAT II
750 Lit SAT II

Biology AP- 5
US History AP- 5

Taking 3 AP classes senior year (English AP, Economics AP, Calculus BC AP)

Our high school does not offer that many AP classes...basically freshmen and sophmore do not have any AP classes available to them.

U/W GPA 3.996 (Only 1 B in my entire HS career and it was in freshmen year, straight A's both sophmore and junior year)
Weighted 4.225
Weighted (10-12) 4.38
Weighted (11) 4.67

School doesn’t give rankings. I wish they did though, if they did I’d be ranked number one, since our school doesn’t weigh grades or count freshmen year grades.

ECs:

Debate Team- 4 years (Captain jr Year, President sn year). Awards at many tournaments. Also, unlike many other schools, our school doesnt have a debate team coach so I pretty much taught all the novices (some of whom are pretty successful) and handled all the administrative issues. All my success has also been attained without a coach. I plan to write about this in my essay. My debate advisor will write a letter of rec, talking about my ability to teach novices, work without a coach, ect.

Junior Statesmen of America- 2 years (a member since it was created my junior year). Leadership position guaranteed, either vice president or speaker of house/senate senior year. We go to conventions and have debates every week.

Socio-Political Activist League- 3 years (a member since it was created my sophmore year). Vice president senior year. We go to rallies, protests, and organize mock elections.

Student Representative on Student Site Council. This is where the school decides where it allocates its' funds.

Internship at Xceive (Start-Up Company) for 4 weeks. 8 hours each day. Helped them complete numerous projects like do powerpoints, write for their website, make graphs and do statistical analysis, ect. Planning to get the person I worked under (VP of Marketing) to write me a letter of rec.

Internship under Assemblywoman Sally Leiber (Assistant Speaker of the California Legislative assembly). About 5 hours a week for a 4 weeks.

Some other ECs like jv football for a year, numerous community service clubs for a year each, but nothing significant.

My essay ought to be very good and my letters of rec will be decent as well.

I’d say my hook is definitely debate. And the fact that all my Ecs are very focused towards a political/law/business-related career.

Thanks for the input!

Who knows? You are among the thousands of qualified candidates with good ECs going for a very few spots. Being Chinese will hurt as you will be competeing against other super high scorers domestic and international. Good luck and take your ticket.

Hahah anything more specific?

What do you people feel my chances are?

Oh and btw my intern at the Assemblywoman's office is actually for 2 months, not 1 month, if it matters at all (It probably doesn't).

how was that experience. Was it anything at all like mine. "Office of Assemblymember Juan Vargas, Can I help you?" haha. and then the person starts demanding that you do something about sb 156 (prevention of cockfighting) or something like that.

WHat they are saying BreakOrDeath is that Yale is so super competitive, it is essentially impossible to convey to you what your chances are. You are a competitive applicant, there's nothing that will automatically reject you, but not much that is amazingly impressive or that sticks out.Make sure interview and essays are top notch, have great recs, cross your fingers.....GOOD LUCK

You are qualified, so assuming that half the applicants are not, your chances are double average, or about 20%.

Wrong Suze. Three quarters are qualifies. Among those many are connected or recruited. His chances are at best average, 10%.
