chances at Yale, Wash U., Princeton, Emory, & Brown

Help - I'm getting nervous after reading these posts - now I'm not sure if I need additional safety schools.

I am # 2 out of 450 and have taken the most challenging course load - lots of APs.
GPA is 4.5

ACT 33

CR 720
Math 670
writing 650

SAT lit 740
Math level 2 730
U.S. Hist 670

My first choice is Yale which I know is a reach. However, I had felt confident about my second choice which is Wash U. until I started reading these forums!
I'm also not sure what to do since my ACT score is better than my SAT I.
I would like to just submit ACT to all schools except Princeton, but all the others recommend SAT IIs, but don't require them. If I send my SAT IIs they will see my SAT I scores. I know they told me they will use my ACTs if they are better than my SAT I scores, but do you think this is the case? Also, do I need more safeties? (I was using Emory)

Forgot to include the following:

I have good ECs but nothing stellar.
I know my recommendations will be very good.

most schools you mentioned REQUIRE sat iis, not recommend.

your test scores are too low for yale, princeton, or brown. unless you are black/hispanic recruited legacy, i say very little chance in.

what's your course load? and be specific about your ECs

I just double checked and according to their web sites (as well as my recent college visits) only Princeton actually requires the SAT II. The others recommend it or else will also accept the ACT exam with the new writing component in place of the SAT I and IIs.
I think my ACT score of 33 is puts me in the mid range of what they accept.

I have taken the following AP classes:
AP Stat
AP Euro
AP History
AP English III Language
AP Bio
AP Psych

Next year I will take
AP Calc AB
AP English IV Literature
AP Environmental Sci
AP French
AP US Gov and Politics

All other classes taken have been honors classes.
All my grades have always been high A's

As far as ECs - not outstanding, but
several clubs at school
Secretary and then Pres. of Key club
Treasurer of Nat'l honor society
French Club
Secretary at church youth group
volunteered at reading to disadvantaged youths

Honored as student of the year for AP Bio and AP English III.

yale REQUIRES sat IIs

course load is good. if you are getting mostly 5s then great.

I copied the following two sections from Yale's web site:

APPLYING TO YALE

Required Tests
Yale requires the submission of either the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT I) and three SAT II Subject Tests, or the American College Test (ACT). For test dates see www.collegeboard.com

and also under FAQs:

Which standardized tests does Yale require?
Yale requires either the SAT I or the ACT. Students who submit scores for the SAT I are also required to take three of the SAT II Subject Tests. They may take any three subject tests of their choosing. The middle 50 percent of Yale's entering class this year had scores between 700 and 790 on both the verbal and the math sections of the SAT I.

So as you can see Yale does not require SAT IIs (or SAT I). The same applies to all the other schools other than Princeton (althought believe it or not Princeton will accept ACT rather than SAT I if none of the other schools you are applying to require the SAT I, but they DO required 3 SAT IIs.

Please let me know my chances at all these above mentioned schools. Do I need any other safeties???

"other safeties"? The schools you listed don't qualify as safeties for anyone...so yeah you need to add to that list.

need advice you are right. i took the SAT I so i thought the IIs are necessary.
your subject tests are good but not spectacular for yale. unless you can retake sat 1 to be 2250+, i would submit ACT instead of the sats.

Wouldn't Emory be considered a safety?

A safety is a school that you will get into... no questions asked. Your chance at Emory is quite good, however, it's far from a definite. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd put Emory as a match for you (which is really the highest Emory could be for anyone)... so maybe 50-60% chance, assuming you apply RD.
