Chances at Yale?

Hello,

I'm new to CC, but I'd like opinions on my chances of being admitted into Yale. I'm an Asian to-be a H.S. Senior Fall 2013. I'd like to know if I'm being over optimistic or not...Also, any advice or good college choices are greatly appreciated. (P.S. Planning to major in BioMedical Engineering).

Talent/Ability: MUSIC Co-Founded School's First Barbershop Quartet
Choir for 4 years (Advanced)
Experienced in Piano, Acoustic Guitar, Chinese Bamboo Flute

Character/Personal Qualities: For my APP and Extracurricular to decide

Applicant's Interest: Not applicable

I primarily use CollegeBoard College Search to do research an Yale's very important factors are : GPA, Essay, Character, Extracurricular, and Recommendations. Important factors are: Rigor of classes, SAT, and Talent. Other factors are considered. (Just some research)

You are really going to have a hard time getting into Yale. Your SAT and GPA are subpar. Your ECs lack coherence but the Barbershop Quartet may be the only EC that you seem passionate about. You also seem a little passionate about BME so that may help. Although I say that you have a chance, that chance is very slim.

^Agreed. You need to get a 2200+ SAT for sure. Your EC’s and GPA are not very strong.

Thanks for the feedback. Well having a chance is better than having none I suppose.

Hey, we’re in the same year and both looking to apply to Yale :D. I think you definitely need above a 2200+ for consideration…curse our asianess…but your extracurriculars seem great. Your GPA is a little on the short end I think, but if you can bring it up senior year, I think you’ll be in the running :)

Another Asian applying to Yale. ECs are strong, but your GPA and scores are average. In order to get into Yale, you need AMAZING SAT scores. It’s kin of late to change your GPA but a 2300+ might be your last chance at improving chances at Yale. If I were you I would go for Georgia Tech. They are #2 in Biomed engineering, 51% acceptance and match your stats.

GPA is weak for a school like Yale. Your SAT is weak as well (weaker than GPA, in fact), and even if you do get it up to 2300ish, that will just make you look like an underachiever (that GPA…).

You can take a crack at it (crazier things have happened), but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Haha that’s what happens when I decide to sleep 8 hours a day. And yeah I am applying to Georgia Tech. But Yale is still that dream school.

It looks like it will be really really tough. Get your scores up, and work hard hard hard on those ECs over the next few months. Then you’ll have a much better chance.

How does your school have 60 people making Ivies every year???

weighted GPA is pretty low for ivies, considering your unweighted would probably be < 3.5. same for SAT, but maybe not for all of them, but definitely for yale.

yale like other colleges use GPA and SATs as a qualification test of some sorts, so it will be very tough

You say specialized high school so I guess you’re from NY too. Which school? You can say it in code if you want :P

It’s true I checked, that’s just how good we are lol. ^CSIHSIS Brooklyn Tech.

To math64: Well naturally 60+ kids would get in, B Tech has like 5,000 students xD

i think you have a great chance!

just make sure you retake that SAT

and try your best to get a 2200

make sure atleast 710 on each subject

sorry i posted so many times i just kept on forgetting to add the stuff :)
