Schools that Im applying to
EA: University of Chicago, Boston College
really hoping to getting in to u of Chicago (best econ program, name value, won't have to apply to colleges that r not as good as u of c)

RD(will apply regardless of whether i get in to u of chicago or not): Wharton (first choice), Harvard (name value, good econ program), MIT-Sloan

RD(will apply if i dont get accepted to u of c): Dartmouth, Northwestern, UVA, NYU-Stern, Lehigh(legacy), BU

thanks in advance

so, you're talking business schools, but you're also talking about undergrad, then you talk about econ? What are you asking?

Your stats, ec's and a patent will (nearly 100%) likely get you in to U of C, but is it Econ that you want to do? or Pre-MBA?

In the long-run, do you want to go into law, CPA, i-banking?
for econ undergrad, i'd suggest also looking at stanford, wharton and MIT (over harvard, nyu stern)

to dr_slc

when i said b-schools, i was talking about undergrads that have b-schools such as UPenn, NYU, MIT...
well... for now, i want to get into one of the top firms right after i graduate from college and gain some experience(top firms related to investment banking such as Citigroup GCIB, MorganStanley, GoldmanSachs, JP Morgan etc.)

im pretty sure that you cant major in econ if u go to wharton, although u do get a bachelor's degree of economics if u graduate from wharton...
and for the schools that dont have b-schools for undergrad, ill be applying for econ

i am definitely applying to wharton and sloan... i prefer to stay in the New England area (near my home), so i dont think id apply to stanford

i actually did consider applying to Stanford and UCberkeley-Haas, but i decided not to because of my regional preference and i realized that id be applying to too many schools that i dont have a definite chance in

wow, 196 to 230, that's quite a jump on the PSATs :D, how did you raise it that much?

i only emphasized on the critical reading section... i didnt really prep for the psat, but instead took couple practice sat tests and memorized vocabs... also, i studied all 17 types of grammar questions that appear on the SAT writing section

I think you could have a better strategy. Wharton ED is a certain advantage over RD and you have a strong shot, especially ED. U of C is a lock RD, I would be absolutely shocked if you were not accepted. So I wouldnt waste your early opportunity there, you are in anyway. Wharton is within range and since its your first choice go for it.

Wharton is certainly my first choice school... but im a kind of person who wants to have all of my options opened... considering the fact that ED is binding, its not the type of thing that I like. also, i dont think anyone is too sure about getting in to u of Chicago. Despite its high acceptance rate, all the applicants have unique characteristics and outstanding achievements... i personally think that since EA at Chicago has a higher chance of getting in than RD, id hopefully get in to Chicago and wish for the best at my other schools

Do any of you by any chance know what the acceptance rate at Wharton is?? (i know that the acceptance rate at upenn is roughly 20%)

If I were you I'd apply to Wharton ED, then Chicago RD....

You want I-banking? You go to Wharton

Wharton is 13.6% overall, but RD its less than 8%.

I think you are overthinking Chicago, and EA is not nearly the advantage ED is. Your stats are too high to be rejected RD.

id really have to contemplate on whether i should apply wharton for ED or not...

do u all really think i have a decent chance at RD Chicago???
What do u guys honestly think about ED Wharton and RD Sloan School?

Just a hint: I am a professor at Northwestern University and I was talking to a colleague recently who teaches at NU's Kellogg School of Management, and he reiterated what many of us in academia already know: graduate programs strongly prefer that those applying to a graduate program have a broad liberal arts background rather than a business focus. If you are as strong a student as you appear, then do yourself a favor and learn as an undergraduate how big the world really is and, in turn, how to be a lifelong learner. That will be your best preparation for the business world. Good luck.

Go for ED, I think most of their applicants have your stats anyways. But you have to realize, a lot of Wharton students turn down HYPS for it..

carlmom

thank u for your advice...
Although I am aware of the fact that broad liberal arts background is crucial, I am intending to get a job right after I graduate from college in an I-banking firm. Im not just putting money on top of everything else, but I just think that gaining experience at one of the top firms in the world is by far important than anything else. Another thing that I know for sure is that, top I-banking firms tend to recruit "exclusively" from people who graduated from best undergrad or grad school w/ best econ or business-realted programs

i really dont wanna think about it... but as much as i want to get into wharton, i also know how competitive and likely i am going to get rejected

if i do get rejected, which schools from my following list do i have a decent chance in??
Harvard College
MIT-Sloan
University of Chicago
Northwestern
NYU-Stern
UVA

You should apply to these schools:
Penn-Wharton (ED)
Chicago
Berkeley
NYU-Stern
NW-Kellogg
MIT

You have a chance for all those schools. Your Wharton app had better be amazing, but you stand a very good chance of getting in. Your a perfect candidate: high-achieving numbers-wise plus you show a high level of interest in business. You're definitely in the running there. MIT and Harvard RD will be quite a stretch, but Wharton is the best. Competitive or not, the opportunities there are unmatched.

i thought Wharton was more competitive than Sloan...

although MIT sloan is ranked as the second best management program in the nation, if your goal is to be recruited by an ibank than other business schools such as wharton, nyu stern, or ivy league econ programs would be better job wise.

also, does it help if im an international student who's currently living in the states (not a citizen)...

to young_one

thanks for the advice...
i agree and disagree w/ what you said... although good econ program gets people recruited to ibanks, i think that people who graduated from schools w/ top econ program and those who graduated from top business school have the same chance of being recruited at top firms. after all, working at ibank requires you to have a diploma at a top-notch school.

also, i plan to pursue education (MBA) after couple yrs of experience
