Chances? Borderline academics

I'm currently a junior in high school, and I really want to apply to GT (its a stretch for me) but I know my academic profile is probably not the best...so I just want to know what my chances would be. I'll probably be deferred lol, but it's worth a try!!!

applying ED

Asian Female (only throwing that out there because I know GT has high male ratio)

GT GPA: 3.995 (not sure if rounding would make a big diff)

2 years foreign language

Junior yr AP classes: Calc AB, Eng Lang & Comp

SAT
M: 680
R: 540
W: 610
(total: 1830)

ACT/superscored
M: 27
R: 27
E: 28
S: 26
and a pitiful essay score of 6
(I'm hoping to retake the SAT/ACT one more time in the fall)

ECs:
Piano (11 yrs)
Tennis (4 yrs)
Jazz band (2 yrs)
Yrbook photog (1 yr, so I dont think this'll count)
Orchestra (7 yrs)
Work/volunteer exp: babysitting and playing piano at retirement home

Also, would it make a major difference if I said I was In-State/Out-of-State at this point? (Currently I'm out-of-state, but I have family over there so I could probably move there)

Your gpa is great however your Sat & Act scores do not match up with your gpa. Which could mean that you are just not a good test taker. Spend some time studying for the two tests. You will have a better chance if you can raise the Sat to 2100.

I cant imagine moving and changing high schools for senior year just to maybe increase your odds of
Being accepted.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I’m really hoping to get those up–I’d get 30s on the ACT practice tests at home but then my actual test scores always fall lower than I anticipate. However, I do think my essays could probably strengthen my low standardized scores because I have strong writing skills (just not when it comes to being timed! haha).

Oh and I meant I could probably use their address to apply so I’d be in-state, and then if I’d miraculously get accepted, I could move over there with them or be on campus.

They are going to look at where you are going to high school just putting a differnt address down is not
Going to work.

You have good academics and solid extra curriculars, make sure to talk about your musical talents. Definitely spend at least a month buckling down and studying for the SAT or ACT, whichever you prefer, because you’ll be applying in one year and for the international high school class of 2014, the competition is going to be fierce, since GTech will be part of the Common App.

Like MichiganGeorgia said, they’ll see your high school, so it won’t work.

What major are you looking at? Being female will help, but since GTech will be joining the Common App for your year, it won’t help as much as it would have a year or 2 ago, since there will be a great influx of female applicants.

Honestly, you’re pretty on the fringes for GT with those test scores. GPA and SAT are both important, but it’s much better to have a low GPA but high SAT than a high GPA but low SAT.

You likely won’t get in EA, maybe you will RD. I’d say just write essays that really, really point out that GT is your #1 and play up the fact that you’re a girl.
