Chances (CarnegieM,BC,NYU, etc.)

my friend's stats
chances please

international student residing in the states (Korean)
GPA
93 UW

SAT
Math: 800 CR: 510 Writing:560

SAT II
Math IIC: 800 Korean: 800 Chem: 640 or 680

ECs
Chess Club (10,11,12)
Tommorow's children (11,12)
Soccer JV(10,11) Varsity (12)
Math League (11,12)- one of the top scorers in school
NHS

SATs and ECs arent that good

anyway, chances at
Carnegie Melloin
Boston College
NYU
Lehigh
Penn State
Fordham

o he has bout 80hrs of community service (in total)

I don't think he can make CMU, but the others he has a good chance.

getting in to BC, NYU, and Lehigh isn't gonna be easy
international pool is supposedly much tougher
your friend def has a chance at every school that you listed but its not gonna be easy in any of those schools (fordham and penn state he'll prob get in)

juz out of curiosity
wats the mean sat score for BC, NYU, and Lehigh (they should be similar)

BC - 1325 M+V
NYU - 1315
Lehigh - 1310

then i guess he has a decent chance in all of the school except for carnegie mellon... doesnt it look bad if you score poorly on one of the subjects (cr in this case;), especially if it is substantially less than the other subject

he really wants to go to Boston College
i mean, he wants to go to Carnegie Mellon and UCLA ... but his realistic aim is BC

i think he has 50% chance (or a little bit less) of getting in
wat do u guys think?

this is probably the most upfront answer your gonna get

Carnegie Melloin- cant really tell you.. the only experience I have is friends that got in but they have better stats
Boston College- Good Jesuit school, thats about it but I understand why he really wants to go. it has a great campus (been there twice) and an awesome college atmosphere ;factoring in both the city life and the diversity etc. So can he get in? I say hes got a shot. My older friend got in with a 1200-1300 SHE WONT TELL ME ...!! but its probably in the middle but she was at the top of her class... very small school though (public). On the other hand my other friend that attends my school got deferred with a rank of 80 somethign out of 315... and a 2050 SAT.. so yeh 50% is a good estimate maybe more maybe less
NYU- in all seriousness.. it depends.. with those scores STERN is a long shot... but CAS may be sort of a match.. NYU is really overrated taking out STERN and TISCH... i mean you dont have to be very qualifed to go to CAS and.. u really dont have to qualified that much at all for any of the lower campuses.....
Lehigh- i think he'll hate it here since its very LARGE white population since he is a internation student... korean.. I can speak for this myself since I am korean as well and was going to apply there but didnt since the same reasons... no i dont have anythign against white people but I would like diversity.
Penn State- hes in.. no question.... seriously 2/3 is GPA and he is definatly qualifed ..
Fordham - dont even apply.. go to rutgers.. fordham is 1. a waste of money 40k?? for a school thats not even close to an IVY.. jesus christ u must be joking me. look at there RANK for god sakes 2. stateschools are cheaper and are a better investment in both education and money

OK thats my 2 cents.. hope it helps in any way

babsonapplicant

lehigh def is a predominantly white-school (my sister went there)
but when it comes to diversity, boston college isn't that diverse either
he prob cares about diversity but at this point, i think hes juz concerned about getting into a college that is ranked between top 20~40

hah yes true..:)
