I totally agree, some people put NYU to be way more selective than it actually is. I thought that NYU was quite selective, until I realized that many of my friends' stats were average at best. This by no means reduces the academic merits of the school (and as many know, its business school is among the finest in the nation), but it simply isn't that hard to get into.

The increase in selectivity does not necessarily mean that the school is getting more selective for certain groups of applicants. For example, there may be a huge increase in number of applicants with SATs of 1800 or lower, but this will not have much an effect for an applicant with an SAT of 2100 or higher. It will however, have a very significant effect on the chances of an applicant with his SAT in the 1800 range.

To conclude, NYU is a great school, with many of its departments being very recognized in the nation, but it isn't a very hard school to get into.
