List:
Cornell (reach)
NYU (reach)
UC Berkeley (reach)
UC LA (reach)
UC San Diego (match?)
Boston Unversity (match?)
UC Santa Barbara (safety)

What exactly constitutes reach, match, and safety? reach (<10%?) match (50%) safety (>70%)?

I don't think the terms reach, match , safety havet much use in these crazy times with so many applications per spot in top schools. I HAVE heard of the term "sure bet" replacing "safety" and that sounds better since some kids end up there by default or by choice because they like the school or are offered a merit scholarship.

Having said that, I'd say BU is a match of the more certian variety. Schools only count the top SAT scores so 2090 is at the top of the average range of 1270-1410 for this years enrolled Freshman. You have interesting recs, some are uncommon, so good luck.

Schools only count the top SAT scores so 2090 is at the top of the average range of 1270-1410 for this years enrolled Freshman. You have interesting recs, some are uncommon, so good luck. You will probably get good aid too.

Thank you so much. I have been looking for a match school that I will be more than happy to go to especially with good aid. BU seems to be the one. Something just tells me that I would like it there. But then again, I have never set a foot on the campus. lol.

UCSB is my sure bet since I am ELC and basically guranteed a spot as long as I do my application. But I don't see myself there for the next four years.

Any more feedback?

TWED,
Like many large schools BU has a significant international presence and there are several clubs devoted to Asian & Asian-American cultutal interests so you can continue to pursue those ECs if it still interests you then. You have a nice list. All the UCs, plus NYU and BU for an urban environment, although BU has more of a campus than NYU, and then Cornell which is very different. Cornell has a beautiful campus but the city of Ithaca is not very nice compared to NYC and Boston. All three have a colder climate but Cornell can be more brutal in the winter. Also, consider that transportaton out of a major city is a lot easier and less expensive for your trips home than a lesser/smaller city which would require connecting flights.

Hopefully you can take an east coast trip during Spring Break and see what you think. Boston is a terrific city with a huge park in the center of it, Boston Common. Big music scene. Its a smaller city, friendly, walkable, comparatively clean. During the school year one in four residents are students.

Cornell was my dream school in the beginning of junior year. The obsession died down but I guess first love never really dies. lol.

But recently, I have been debating dropping Cornell and applying for USC. It is less of a reach and it is just silly to apply for a school because it is an ivy league.

That way I can make sure that I will be able to see BU and NYU over winter break. (yes, I will get a taste of the bitter winter)

Dogs, your responses really make me excited for college. I was really excited in the beginning of senior year but then i just couldn't make up my mind and it is just worrisome. Thank you!
