Chances @ CMC, Bates, Colby, Bowdoin, Vassar, Oxy, Wes, Pitzer, Whitman, USC, Tulane, Vandy, BC, CC

@woogzmama‌ I have a really good relation with CMC. A kid with a lower gpa than me and a 2 point higher ACT got in since he bonded with his regional rep which is what I’m doing. Also, my extracurriculars are extremely strong. I have stuff on my college app that many med school applicants don’t have. My ECs are also very focused on one thing and very unique and I have leadership on a lot of them. The admissions officer told me a student with a low gpa and scores but amazing recs, essays, and ECS is what they would rather accept than the "ideal student. I think it’s a reach but a low one.

My son scored a 29 on his first ACT, and then raised his score to 31. His adviser suggested CMC because they are known for placing such importance on ECs. It remains highly competitive and selective, nevertheless. Unlike Vanderbilt, which is notorious for its emphasis on high stats, you have a chance at CMC, but it is a reach for almost everyone considering its low acceptance rate.

@woogzmama‌ I understand. How about Pitzer, Oxy, USC, Boston College, Colorado College, Wesleyan, Bowdoin, Bates, Colby, Vassar, Whitman, and Wisconsin?

@tripass216 Thanks! Could you explain why UW-M is a reach?

They probably mean because you are out of state.

Why didn’t you channel some effort into improving that ACT since you want it to be inline with schools you are targeting or target schools you are more inline with? Or take SAT? Just rhetorical question, no need to answer.

@BrownParent‌ i don’t know if I can bring my act score up. Im doing the red book and testrocker right now.

Some of the colleges on your list are test-optional. I would certainly recommend that for Bowdoin and Wesleyan, as long as you recognize that they are among the most selective schools in the country (on account, in part, of their appeal to strong students with disappointing test results). They are reaches for everyone. I think that Colorado College and Bates might also be test-optional. Pitzer is definitely test-optional: my son submitted his higher sets of test scores there. I’m not sure about Colby, Vassar, Oxy, et al. My son got into Oxy and Whitman, and both met our EFC.I doubt that Wisconsin is test-optional; few public flagships are, because they simply lack the time and resources to go through every application that carefully. I’d say you have a chance at some or all of those colleges, if you are willing to work hard on the essays and supplements that they usually demand in lieu of standardized tests. I also recommend including some less-selective colleges, including more from the “Colleges That Change Lives” consortium. Perhaps Willamette, Puget Sound, Wheaton (MA, not IL), Goucher, et al should be on your list for consideration. Some are test-optional, and others have median ranges which would fit your stats comfortably.

Not familiar with most of the colleges listed so I will only say for those I do know!

One last try to bump this. I like feedback from CCers.

@TexasTeen99‌ You should be able to find some oppurtunities in your state. You might be too young though. Are you interested in politics though? You can do the Senate Page Program in the summer after your sophomore year, it’s prestigious and will look good as a job. It pays you as well. So all you’ll have to pay is for your airplane ticket.

Sorry this took me forever 0_0

CMC: match (don’t know too much about it but you seem qualified)
Vandy: Reach
Tulane: match
CC: Match
BC: Match
Vassar: match
USC: Reach
Pitzer: reach (don’t know too much about this one either)
You have great stats and really good ECs! If you get your ACT up to a 30 or 31 you’re definately set for a lot of these. Good luck!

USC - reach

CC - low reach

Sorry to have to qualify so many of these as reaches. Actually most of them would even be “high reaches”. I only put Vassar as that, because I am more familiar with their criteria. Vassar’s average student is in the top 10% of their class and has an A- average along with test scores that are higher than what you currently have. Most of those other top LACs would be similar. If you cast a wide net, you might get accepted to one of those reaches, but I think you would be denied at all of them (have a reasonable shot at Colorado College). Good luck!

CMC - low reach
Bates - low reach
Colby - reach
Bowdoin - reach
Vassar - reach
Oxy - match
Wes - low reach
Pitzer - high match
Whitman - match
USC - low reach

I rearranged my list. I got rid of Colby and Vassar, I added Bucknell, URichmond, Washington and Lee, Skidmore, Lafayette and St Olaf. Any more chances?

?

How did you go from precalc junior year to calculus BC senior year? When did you take AB?

@amelia1212‌ Our school’s math track has honors classes skip calc AB.

Oh, okay. I wish my school had that!

Try focusing in on Skidmore, Whitman, CC, and Tulane. Those are the strongest matches for you in this bunch! Good luck!
