Chances? (college list included)

First, my college list (oh and I'm a California resident):

University of Chicago
New York University
University of Michigan Ann Arbor
UC Berkeley
UC LA
UC Davis
UC Santa Barbara
UC Riverside
Purdue University West Lafayette (got in already)

GPA: 4.18
Rank: 37/732
SAT Reasoning: 740M, 640 CR, 620 W
SAT 2's: 800 Math 2c, 750 Physics
AP's: Computer Science A (5), Physics B (4), Statistics (4), English Language Comp (3), European History (3)

Essays: I've done a pretty good job on all of my essays so far. I am fairly confident that if anything they will help (especially for U Chicago I did really good on those)

Recs: My English teacher basically lists all of my accomplishments and says I am "a fine individual who is well liked by his peers." She is sort of ditsy so she probably puts Strong or Enthusiastic most the time.
My Calc teacher this year usually gets the other one. She mentions that I am one of the top students in her both her classes and how I am quite "intellectually curious."
My counselor thinks highly of me (she is VERY experienced), I took the most rigorous courses as possible, and I requested an interview for U of Chicago.

I have dual citizenship: France/USA if it helps (I am not a foreign student I have gone to the same HS all 4 years)

EC's:
Varsity Football (non recruit)
JV track and field
Piano
Karate (brown belt)
French club (president)
Octagon club (community hours)
Peer tutoring

Awards:
AP Scholar with Distinction, CSF lifetime scholar (expecting), Junior Usher, Academic all-CIF selection (football 2004)

Midyear report will show either strait A's or a B+/A- in English

I have this year:
(semester 1/ semester 2)

AP Chemistry/ same
AP Psychology/ same
American gov/ AP Microeconomics
AP English Literature/ same
AP Calculus/ same
Health ed/ no class next semester

b.u.m.p.....

i think you have a good chance at the UC schools... U of Chicago, well it mite be a slight reach just because of the 600's in ur SAT score, but other than that it seems like you have good ECs and teacher recs, and great grades... so yeah

UCB/UCLA:slight reach or match (depends on your anticipated major)
UCD/UCSB: safety
UCR: super safety

oh and my major is Computer Science. I got an A in the class last year both semesters

b.u.mpp plz say what u think ppl

4.18 - is that weighted or unweighted?

vagrant star:

UCB/UCLA: Match
UCSB/UCD: Safety
UCR: Super Safety

4.18 is my weighted GPA. My unweighted is 3.51

I don't think it's possible to get 4.18 UC capped GPA with 3.51 unweighted.

oh actually i forgot to specify something. That 4.18 is including minuses/pluses, and I have gotten FAR more minuses than pluses.. so my UC gpa, which does not count them, should actually be higher.. maybe a 4.3 or so.

and beastmaster, you'd be surprised. 8/12 of my sophmore and junior year classes have been AP/excel. The problem is that I've gotten some B's, which have killed my UW gpa.

Could you list your classes and the grades you got in them? I don't understand this pluses/minuses thing.
From what I see, the highest UC GPA you can get with 12 classes (soph + jr) is 4.33. With "some B's," I'm not really sure if that would be a 4.3.

Oh that's right.. they only allow a certain number huh... hmm I guess I'm not really sure what my UC GPA is.. what would this be beastmaster:

soph year 1st semester: 3 B's 2 A's (3 weighted classes)
soph year 2nd semester: 2 B's 3 A's (3 weighted classes)
Junior year 1st semester: 1 B 5 A's (5 weighted classes)
Junior year 2nd semester: 3 B's 3 A's (5 weighted classes)

I think I got it wrong but I did a bit of mental math and i think you got 95/22

thats like a 4.31-4.32?

EDIT: considering an ap counts as a 5 which i believe is what uc weighs it

soph year 1st semester: 3+3+3+4+4 = 17
soph year 2nd semester: 3+3+4+4+4 = 18
jr. year 1st semester: 3+4+4+4+4+4 = 23
jr. year 2nd semester: 3+3+3+4+4+4 = 21
17+18+23+21= 79
79+8 <--AP/Honor extra points max. = 87
87 / (5+5+6+6) <--total number of classes = 3.954545454
So thats your UC GPA. Anyone want to make sure I didn't do anything wrong?

Hold on a sec, UC only look at 8 semesters of weighted classes?

Yes. It's only 8 semesters, not 16 semesters (8 year-long classes).

So you have an advantage if you took an easier schedule?

Not necessarily. You have an advantage if you take fewer classes loaded with 8 honor/ap semester for UC's.

Yeah, so basically you'll have better chances of achieving better stats (and therefore a better chance of getting in) if you only took 8 semesters of AP/H rather than 16. Doesn't really make much sense.
