aha, now here's a Chances thread I feel confident in posting in.

You look like a first-rate candidate for a school like Columbia. Play up the debate experience, it looks like the best part of your story (although you may have a slam-dunk essay topic already).

Definitely visit, along with peer schools, and get a sense of the atmosphere and kids there. Stay overnight if possible, imho it's the best way to feel out the culture.

Always like seeing the straight-5s APs. I figure, that's the only way I proved to 'em that I actually knew the material in those classes, if I didn't get As. Sure, I may have skipped a few assignments, but I still knew more than 80% of the people taking the AP exam.

So even with a GPA that low I am competitive at Columbia? Would I have a really good chance at ED there? This is my 1st choice

you claim you're top 3% in a class of 650? I think that's fine given how challenging your curriculum has been. Why, have you like gotten a C or two, or is this just the result of the occasional B+ or A-? I mean, perfection isn't a necessity here.

I had two C's freshmen year, Two B's also freshmen year
I have taken 9 AP classes, so I suppose that cancelled them out? I dunno, my weighted GPA is my class rank, not my unweighted, i'm #16, bout top 3%...

You'll get into somewhere good with those numbers, but there's still a randomness factor. Focus on the essay and the "why columbia" question to really show you're a good fit for CU.

Okay, thanks, What I'm trying to say is do you THINK that Columbia will overlook either a GPA of 3.663 or 3.745 when making their decision with my SAT scores and achievements? Would it be to my advantage to play out this senior year and let my last GPA for the first half be added to my gpa? Putting me at 3.745 or keep the 3.663 and reach for the stars? Columbia is my first choice... also do you think that they wouldn't care about all the bad grades freshmen year considering I have never dropped below an A- Soph year and never below an A Jr. and hopefully Sr. year? Does Columbia's app even ask for your schedule and grades?

1) They will take weighting into account. Your rank speaks to your strengths.

2) Your obvious and continuous improvement in grades will be apparent. You did some growing up freshman year and since then have showed your skills clearly.

Could you perhaps give me a % chance? ED only though

Look at this thread <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=238556%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=238556</a> and look at this thread <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=234507%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=234507</a></p>

Note this (exact wording) under these two persons extracurriculars: "*Tutor for 4th grade students in various subjects for two years.
*Tutor for 9th,10th,11th grade students for Algebra II, Trig, Algebra I, Geometry, and Calculus for one year"

Are you the same person, do you go to the same school and live in the same house, or are you creating false profiles to discourage students from applying to the schools to which you are applying?

lol omnislasher, i've come across this thread four or five times by now, it's in every damn ivy league forum. which certainly shows it's not about prestige in your case.

"Probably the ONE</> thing I'm confident about- I love expressing myself through the written word- and I feel I can do extremely well at this part."

.... Oh please. Try and act a little more humble.

I always get amused when people come on here and complain about the humility of posters who are baring their life's work to the internet public and expected to, for some reason, hide their light under a barrel, as it were.

We encourage people to post and discuss the most highly competitive colleges in the country, and everything having to do with admissions. If everyone came on here and were the shy and retiring sort, we'd barely have anything to discuss.

Sorry, I had him confused with another poster that did turn out to be a troll.

Omnislasher1444,

Goodluck! Your SATs, ACTs, APs look super you look like an ideal Columbia candidate.
