Chances Columbia RD

Caucasian Male & Noncompetitive public HS in midwest

A note on GPA and rank: Our school has an awful weighing system; I have taken the hardest classes my school has to offer, and my upward trend is incredibly high even though the weighing doesn't accurately reflect it.

AIME - 9 - VERY close to breaking to USAMO, but didn't do well enough on AMC12

Recs: Both should be very good

Major: Philosophy (will that help?)

sats are very good, class rank isn't, you're an above average candidate, you have a shot, the little leadership in ECs hurts.

"Major: Philosophy (will that help?)"

-nope.

The debate experience (policy? parly? LD?) will be very beneficial. That's seriously some of the best intellectual training on earth.

You are plenty competitive, and it will depend a lot on your Personal Statement (its maturity, and whether it says anything telling about your character or personality), and your Why-Columbia blurb. Convince them you love 'em and they're the only one for you.

You have a pretty damn good shot.

solid chance. Make sure your essays are strong. It's a shame you missed USAMO, but still a very impressive AIME score nonetheless.
