Do I have a good shot? Which SAT IIs should i take?

Your SAT score is a reach, but not impossibly so. You have some intriguing extracurriculars that give you a shot. You're going to really present yourself as a unique and interesting person on your application and essays. I would try to raise that SAT score if I were you.

The SAT IIs you take don't really matter. Take whatever ones you think you'll do best in.

There might not be a reply because Duke does not offer journalism (in any form) as a major. They do offer a certificate in Policy Journalism & Media Studies through their Public Policy department. Certificates at Duke (there are about 20 of them) can be earned with any major/minor. They also have the DeWitt Wallace Center for Media and Democracy, which sponsors a lot of media studies type coursework, research, fellows, et cetera.

You would still need to major in something else though.

Considering Duke doesn't offer a journalism or broadcast journalism major, I would say that Duke isn't a great fit. But your interests might change and you can make it work if you want to - there are several successful journalists coming out of Duke and the student newspaper is extremely strong. Majoring in journalism isn't a must and there are other avenues to still get into the field as a profession...Also, UNC has a strong journalism program.

re: duke and broadcast journalism... it's definitely possible to go to duke and into that field, though duke isn't a school with a distinct program in it (like UNC or Northwestern, as others have mentioned). four really common majors (or minors) for students looking to go this route: Public Policy Studies (can't minor in it, but all the journalism/communication related classes are in this dept and some are pretty hands on, it's also great since you're learning major issues facing the country/world), English (first step in becoming a great journalist is becoming a better writer/communicator), Political Science (learn about the important issues in the world), and even History (learn the history behind what is going on and how to effectively analyze it). and then there's also the certificate in policy journalism & media studies, which requires an internship. for this field, gaining an internship is critical, so needing one to graduate with the closest thing to straight journalism is really helpful. but intern in your other summers. get involved with the media on campus, or even locally -- the chronicle is a great paper, and there's also the duke cable channel, cable 13 -- they have a news show, among other programs. i'm a huge advocate in a liberal arts education, and going to duke and majoring in these more broad fields and having internship experiences and making contacts will really open doors, but it'll also train you to be more than a journalist. it's a great situation. i have a few friends who after graduation went into the media field in magazines/newspapers and one who'll even be working at cnn.

University of Missouri - Columbia or Northwestern is good for journalism. I'm sure you could still do some cool things at Duke, but it's definitely not known for Journalism.

On the admissions front...From the info given I'd say you're a slight reach, but you can never really tell.
