I've already applied everywhere, just curious about how you guys think things will turn out. The schools I've applied to are:

Cornell arts and sciences (early decision)
Carnegie mellon college of science (regular, but if I don't get in to Cornell I'll apply EDII)
University of Rochester
Colgate

I plan on majoring in computer

I'm a white, upper-middle class male from Albany. I attend the most well-renowned high school in the area, so my class is fairly competitive.

4.0 uw gap; school doesn't weight
Top 10% of class of 350; school only does deciles, but my counselor told me I'm in the top 5% of my class as well
ACT - 35 (35 math and reading; 34 science and english; 7 essay)
SAT 2's - 800 chemistry, 800 math 2, 780 us history, 770 physics
AP's - 5 computer science, 5 physics b, 5 chemistry, 5 art history, 4 euro history
Senior year course load - ap calculus bc, ap physics c (e&m and mechanics), ap economics (macro and micro), ap literature, standard intro to government class

EC's:
math team president
yearbook editor
helped out with computer science research (paid) at RPI over the summer, currently writing report on what I did
class treasurer
~75 hours hospital volunteering over the last year and a half

Thanks for your time!

I think you have a decent chance at both, its just your EC’s are quite lacking so if anything that is what would get you rejected

The main reason for my lack of extracurricular activities is that I had health problems during freshman and sophomore year that made me very introverted. Basically, I didn’t do anything outside of school and would just go home and do homework/read. I addressed this issue in my common app essay and explained how I’ve come out of my shell. I’m not trying to excuse my lack of involvement, but my hope is that my essay will convey why I have not done much outside of school.

Oh okay, well that would make up for that fact then =). Again, I think you should get into at least one of those 2 schools no problem

How about the U of R and Colgate?

I think you should get into U of R, not sure about Colgate because im not too familiar how LAC’s work sorry

Thank you Dinomite. Anyone else?

I think Cornell is probably a reach, unfortunately. U of R is a low match and CM is probably a direct match if not a bit low. Regarding Colgate, I’m unsure.

I just realized I said I’m majoring in computer…I meant chemistry. Brain fart

U of R and Colgate should be low matches for you.
Cornell is at the most a low reach, and again, if you did include the reasoning (making it quite clear) behind your lack of involvement, there shouldn’t be an issue. I am not sure if CAS would give an interview for a Chem major, but I personally know a woman who got into CAS for Chemistry in the late 80s solely on an interview with the admissions staff. Nonetheless, I don’t see a problem with that.
CM is probably a match too, maybe a low reach.

Cornell and CMU are going to be high matches due to the lack of ECs, the rest are low matches so you will probably get in.

Thanks. That’s kind of what I figured.
