Chances @ Cornell, Brown, UCB, MIT, UCLA, Stanford, Columbia

@itshydro Yup. I don’t exactly see how having an app with millions of downloads is an expected rich kid activity, but oh well lol. Cornell would be awesome, but I’d probably do an Economics major there. Where did your friend go to college?

Haha, I know right.

He goes to a school in Colorado and studies with my cousin.

@debe3445 shouldn’t be taken too seriously. I feel that you have accomplished a lot, and will get into a place that’s right for you! Now, I’m not sure if that’ll be a Stanford or MIT, but it may very well a Cornell or Dartmouth-like school, both of which are excellent for engineering anyway! At the same time, those schools may also reject you–competition is very high and admissions are sometimes unpredictable, do you can hope for the best, and grats on your accomplishments so far!

I’d appreciate it if you could chance me back, too! (Actually, it’s more like predicting where I’ll get in.) I know it is long, but I’d appreciate it if you could. Thanks!

@iamthegoat Sure, I’ll definitely chance you back. Thanks for the feedback. Also I would not be in the engineering school unless I was at MIT. At all other schools I’d be an Econ major most likely.

Please chance me

MIT - Rejected

Rejected from MIT. Anyone have opinions for the Ivies/ UCs?

Based on what I’ve figured out from the UCs so far, they seem to care more about GPA than test scores, unfortunately. Just from that alone, you might not have as good as an option as some of the schools that look more holistically. I’m pretty new to this, though, so I could be totally wrong Good luck!

@washugrad Shoot. Still aiming for Cornell and Brown, though. I think my ACT/ SAT IIs and others should make up for the low-ish weighted GPA I have right now. Which is 4.36ish. End of year I’ll have a 4.47. But keep in mind for my school that’s top 12 percent.

Do you know your UC GPA? You can google how to calculate that. My kid has about 3.88 UW and 4.03 UC GPA and got into UCSD and wait listed at UC Davis, with a 35 ACT. From looking at the Davis thread, it looks like the GPA was probably the issue (people with much lower ACTs got in, but they pretty much had a higher GPA or else some hook). So I don’t know if UCLA and UCB have the same kind of weighting as Davis, but they are considered more selective and I’d guess that they rank similarly (I’ve heard that UCs give more weight to GPA than to test scores, to make up for the fact that some kids go to not-so-good high schools). But like I said, I could be totally wrong. You sound like an amazing applicant and I’m sure you will find a great fit somewhere.

@washugrad 4.17 UC GPA. But to be totally honest with you, I would rather go to Brown, Cornell, or Stanford.

Mind sharing the name of your app in the supposed top charts in 80 countries?

You have to keep in mind that Stanford is Stanford. It’s like applying to a job at Google, they need to see something in you.

You have a good shot at Cornell however which is a great school.

No. My name is on it, and I do not wish to disclose that information. Sorry @stanfordswag

I forgot to mentioned a couple of business related ECs I’ve done . I am financial officer for our robotics team and also one of the programmers. I’ve helped sign contracts with major corporations who I have connections with through my app in order to get funding and advertising. Also have thousands of hours of volunteer work teaching underprivileged people how to code, market, and advertise their apps. Etc. Some more things. But the gist of my college app is definitely related to iOS Apps and the economy of that market. lol.

Did you code it all by yourself? If so what language did you code it in?

Yes. Objective C. Are you interested in making apps? @stanfordswag

bump!

b.u.m p

No. I code.
