nhd -
students select a historical event/topic that relates to the national history day theme (it changes every year)
then students conduct extensive research for a year. this year i’m doing a study on bioethics in clinical research and the tuskegee syphilis experiment. i even dropped a class to do an independent study program so i had more time research
there are three main categories: performance, documentary, exhibit (every student creates a project proving a thesis of some sort that has to do with the theme. i did an individual exhibit last year, a documentary the previous year, and an exhibit in 8th grade). theres the project portion and the interview portion (where a judge questions you about your project)
there are three levels - regionals, states, nationals
at nationals, everyone travels to the UMaryland for a 5-day (i think?) competition.

Woops, I forgot.
Senior course load: AP Euro, AP Lit, AP Calc AB, AP Bio, Intl Business & Cultures, Independent Study (History), & Phys Ed of course lol

your sat & gpa are sooooooooooooooooo high
you can get into ( just about ) any top tier schools.

Not too worry! You’ll get into a great college.
Sometimes, it just depends on the overall strength of apps pool & # of apps that particular year, in some years that may be more ‘overachievers / superstars’ & some years there may be more well rounded students. You just never know.

you got fantastic grades / stats so you’ve got a shot!

Do note that even though you participated in NHD in the eighth grade, you can’t put that on your common app. Your ECs are very focused and you show a lot of dedication. You seem more like a typical HYPS applicant (and a strong one at that) so you’re most likely in at Hopkins :p

Good luck! I’m off to panicking. Only 8 days before ED results. May God be with all ED applicants.

thanks!
i actually just got rejected from columbia today (bummer, eh?) so thank you all for the positivity!
jhu all the way!! :D

honestly, im actually kinda glad i got rejected because i feel like jhu would be a better fit for me. i did very little research before EDing so iguess things work out for the best! :)
