Major: Not sure if I should declare Engineering... although I am a girl

Chance me for ED and RD. Thanks! =]

very good chances. Excellent essays will get you in.

Which major would be better to declare? Engineering or a science? I was also contemplating economics.

It doesn't really matter, unless of course it's BME.

So all other majors aren't that popular? It's just BME that is competitive?

ALL majors are competitive. BME is extra competitive. If I remember correctly, Hopkins is ranked first in biomedical engineering, which obviously makes it more competitive.

Well, I meant that most are not more competitive than normal. I define BME as competitive in comparison to the other majors which do not seem as hard to get into, not that the others are not good/competitive or anything.

Anyone know how their econ program is?

Wow your resume is similar to mine. Write a good essay and you should be fine. Don't forget to send in your research paper. From what I've read on other posts, their Econ program is strong. Contact a professor there and ask questions and they'll probably answer (make sure the subject line is something that will get them to open it, like "High School Senior Interested in Economics" or something like that).

BME and Pre-med at Hopkins are the most competitive majors (* although, technically pre-med isn't a major).

I was referring to the prospective major selection on your application in that it won't change your chances of admissions unless you choose BME.

In other words, if you want to really major in Biology but you put Africana Studies on your application, it isn't going to affect your admissions decision.

Hahaha. Africana Studies xD

Should I just send in an abstract or like... the entire 15-20 page paper? I don't know if they'd be THAT interested in it. It's pretty specific, so it might be kind of boring to the professors or whoever ends up reading it.

YanksDolphins, you said that your resume was similar to mine. Did you apply ED or RD to get in? Were your scores higher than mine? [mine aren't that great; yours probably were much better]

I'm probably going to double major eventually. I'll just declare economics for now I guess.

I have another question: Recently, I've been talking to people about JHU and whether it's a good FIT for me... The only comments I have received have been about how people are EXTREMELY cutthroat and competitive. I don't mind competition at all, but I don't want someone sabotaging my research or stealing my homework xD Tell me these people are not just exaggerating a little bit. I mean, are some people THAT desperate to get good grades?

Do a search here and on the JHU discussion sites for "cut-throat". It's largely overstated, and I wouldn't call the environment any more than competitive.

JHU has great students but it is NO MORE COMPETITIVE of an environment than any other highly selective college.

Got it. Thanks for clearing up that myth :)
Next time, I know what to tell those people who claim to know everything about JHU xD

I have another question actually. What was the ED admit rate for this past year? I see the number of ED applicants, but not the admit rate for ED only.
