Chances difficult to gauge

Now that the time is almost here to apply to colleges, I have no clue what chances I have anywhere, so I have no idea what schools to aim for.

Here is my profile:

I went to a private gifted school 4th through 8th grade. I was 1 year ahead in English and Soc and 3 ahead in Math and Science. I had straight A+ grades.

I then entered public school and did poorly in my freshman year. I ended up with a 3.20. Over this past summer, the school decided to skip me to Junior year (no actual changes in classes because I was already accelerated).

I am currently in BC Calc, AP Physics C, US Honors (grade 11), American Lit H (grade 11), and Spanish 10 Honors.

My GPA this year is slightly higher than last year, 3.4 to 3.5.

Scores:
PSAT:
Math: 80
Critical Reading: 77
Writing: 68

SAT II:
Physics: 800
Math IIC: 800

SAT I:
January:
Math: 740
Critical Reading: 710
Writing: 790

March: will find out on the 29th

NY Regents:
Living Environment - 93
Chem - 98
Physics - 98
Global - 96
Math A - 94
Math B - 94

Physics B AP: 4

Extracurricular:
Acting in Drama
Marching Band
Science Olympiad
Math Team
Film Society

For the summer, I have been accepted to the Scitech program at the Technion in Israel and I'm waiting to hear from the GARCIA summer program at Stony Brook. I'm also going to apply to PROMYS.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Oh yea, all of those GPAs are unweighted. My school doesn't weight.

I hate to do this, but bump.

When the hell did you learn all of the material for the SAT physics? You've only had one year of HS.

If you know all of the material, it's very basic knowledge of every concept, but it takes time to learn all of that. That was especially my problem. I can dominate mechanics but I had never learned E&M, or optics at the time of the test.

Props for that.

It isn't too bad. AP B covers all of the material. The only thing I really had to study extra was anything involving Planck's constant and I reviewed optics. I just did that the day before the test and it was all good. The SAT II is easier than the AP, but much harder than the NY Regents (which is a joke).

bump 10char

a little help here?

why would they bump u to jr. year when u got a mediocre 3.2? freshmen year

because I would have nothing to take senior year. If this was my sophomore year, by the end of my junior year, I would have completed multivariate calc, both AP Physics, AP Chem, AP Statistics, AP Gov, AP economics, the school's soc curriculum, and the school's English curriculum. I may decide to stay another year but IDK how that will look to colleges.

there are 3000 colleges in the US. what are you looking for in a shcool?

I'm looking for a good engineering school. I am interested in (but obviously I have a very slim chance at) Caltech, Stanford, MIT, CMU, JHU, and Yale, and I'll probably take a look at Olin. I haven't looked past the really high ranked engineering schools to see the more realistic options yet.

i really think you are an excellent choice for most colleges... your SAT's are stellar and your GPA is average. probably because of the rigor in your schedule! Colleges will see that, you just need a good college councilor to highlight your apparent genius.

Apply to the top tier schools, but also apply to ones like Georgia Tech and such that are almost sure acceptances for you.

Good luck!

Thanks doctorsboy. I just feel nowadays like there is no "sure acceptance" for me. It seems like my GPA ruins everything completely. I'm not even sure what my weighted GPA is because my school doesn't weight.
(incidentally, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=317459 )

An update:

Some people responded to my other thread and it seems that my GPA is about 3.77-3.78. This should greatly improve my chances.

Wow skipped to Jr.? That's pretty crazy. I think you should emphasize that on your application.

It would help if you said what schools you wanted to apply to.
