chances (don't know if I asked already)

Hi,

I'm not sure if I asked already after getting my ACT, but can anyone chance me for Umich? I have a really really low GPA, which is what is scaring me.

IN SUMMARY: I should finish high school with around a 3.85, or at very worst 3.8 UW for fresh-senior year.
*I know however that stanford, UCs, and Umich weight grades differently, so this number should go down slightly for these schools

*class rank UW right now = 38/515. Weighted = 30/515 (will go up because not many kids have taken hard classes yet)

I'd say you're in, but barely. Your GPA would be lower because they don't count freshman year, I really only see that hurting you.

I'd say you are a match. If I calculated correctly, you have a 3.8 Michigan GPA and a 30 on the ACT. Apply as soon as the applications are out (late August).

how is a 3.8 a really really low gpa?? =</p>

Most kids nowadays, no matter how good they do, always seem to feel they're inadequate. This is especially true on CC.

I just read a thread where some kid was cursing himself for getting a 2350 SAT

dude chill out u got freakin 3.8 uw gpa

yeah but I'm afraid that its going to drop because I'm not doing so well this semester (I have like 2 to 3 Bs in academic classes). I'm working hard to erase them, but lets assume again that I completely F*** it up and end up with around a 3.75 UW GPA. Is that still good enough? Also, how does my ACT look?

btw, I thought that I currently have a 3.83 UM GPA. How did you calculate it because my academic classes are:
AP Chem: B/A
Lit Comp 10 (Honors): A/A
Physics 2: A/A
Pre-Calc: A/B
Social Studies 10 :B/A (can explain this B)
Spanish 2:A/A

Human Anatomy: A
IB Biology: A
Spanish 3: A
IB Calculus: A
IB Psychology: A
IB English: A

which = 69/18 = 3.83333 UM GPA

Does anatomy not count, because its a very academic class?

common guys; i didnt even get my decision yet;
stop worrying juniors!

hey us juniors have worries too...

I plan on filling out my application in august...and thats only a few months away

dont worry about it at all, ur overall app will look good

trust me, if u apply early, ur pretty much in
umich is not that hard to get into, and is incredibly easy actually if u apply early.

"trust me, if u apply early, ur pretty much in

uofmhelpful, Michigan has never been "incredibly easy" to get into and it is tougher now than it has ever been. In 2004, 23,000 students applied, 13,000 were admitted. In 2005, 25,000 students applied and 12,000 were admitted. This year, over 27,000 students applied and Michigan is expected to accept fewer than 12,000 applicants. Next year, assuming the trend continues, Michigan will probably receive close to 30,000 applicants and again, roughly 12,000 will be admitted. In short, it has been tough and is getting tougher to get into Michigan. The number of 3.8+ GPA students with 1300+/28+ SAT/ACT scores who are getting deferred and then turned down is significant. I agree that the OP has a good chance, but Michigan is actually quite tough to get into.

even so, its still a high 53% acceptance rate. The earlier you apply, the better chance. Too bad I applied super late :D

Weillin, Michigan's acceptance rate this year should be below 45%. It is still high compared to its peers, but it is not high when you consider the quality of the applicant pool.

Chance for Michigan jumps if you...
1. apply early
2. live in Michigan

well I dont live in Michigan, so unfortunately no luck there. But Michigan is rapidly overtaking UCLA/UNC-CH as my favorite school. So if I apply as early as possible and explain in my essays and stuff how if I get accepted, I will go there no matter what, are my chances fairly decent then even if I fail this semester and wind up with a 3.75 ir 3.77 GPA or something?
