Currently a freshman at Duke interested in transferring to Wharton as a sophomore because of its stronger business program and increased opportunities. I applied to Wharton regular decision from high school and was waitlisted. My stats are below; thanks in advance for your input!

SAT I: 2280
HS GPA: 4.61/3.99(unweighted)

High school ECs:
Founder and President of Amnesty International club, Editor-in-Chief of school newspaper, created an empowerment program encouraging young girls to enter male-dominated careers, 4-year varsity cheerleader, dance teacher.
Other: National AP Scholar, National Merit Finalist
Legacy (sort of): Sister graduated from Wharton

WOW! I can’t believe you didn’t get in as freshman!

You have a solid chance for transfer. You just have to apply!
The only thing that might be a little bit of a red flag is your college GPA. But if your course load is rigorous, don’t worry!

You have the high school academic record, the extracurriculars, and a 3.8 from a highly-selective peer institution + suitable collegiate involvements. Apply!

What classes did you take in your first semester at Duke? Were they curved or straight grading based on whatever you got on finals?

I’d apply. I know for an internal transfer (from another Penn school into Wharton), they don’t consider less than a 3.75 – but realistically the few people who get in have near perfect GPAs. Since you’re above the 3.75 mark at a peer school, I’d apply. Be prepared to talk about why you still want to go there, what at Duke has made you even more certain of a business career etc.

@aj725 I took intermediate microeconomics, marketing, a freshman seminar class (required), and Chinese 101. The first two classes were curved. Thanks for the advice!
