1390 SAT (760M 630V)
1/283 4.0/4.0 GPA
8 AP's
are my chances better if i go EA?

no, its harder to get in EA than RD, however you have a solid chance EA, i wouldnt be worried

u really think i have a good shot EA with my stats een though i dont have the "1400" SAT

they aren't going to deny you, i'm 99% sure about that, so the worst that can happen is you get deferred...might as well try

I wouldn't say 99% sure...The admissions officer really stressed that if you are not the top of the applicants you should not apply EA. They do not look at EA as any extra commitment because of it's not binding. She really stressed teh fact that they do reject people from EA I can not remember the exact percentage, but when i heard the number i knew right away i would not apply early and i have very similar stats to you tschiazza...but then again they do defer...but i chose not to apply early after hearing the admissions officer strongly advising against it for basically everyone!

so i will most likely just get deferred?

hmm now you got me worried... i just sent in my EA.. 1460 (800 math, 660 verbal) 4.2 GPA (top 10% in unranked class) alright EC's, and above average rec's and essay.

My guess is you both with either get deferred or in. But i'm no expert. I just know it is harder to get in EA than RD because the applicant pool is much more competitive.

I would say tschiazza is in...they seem to love people ranked number one in the class...at least from what i have seen...so you are 10 points away on the SAT no biggie...as long as your recs. and essays were solid you have an awesome chance.

GOOD LUCK

Sometimes I wonder about the EA acceptance - several girls from my daughter's high school had higher GPA's and class ranking but slightly lower SAT scores and both were denied while she was accepted. The GPA and class ranking were just small points ahead and both girls had good extracurriculars. I think EA acceptance takes in a lot of components besides stats - I think essays and personal recommendations make a difference for EA. My d had extraordinary service hours in high school and both her recommendations stated that ND was her dream school for years (which it was). We were kind of shocked the other two girls were not accepted, not even deferred. I think they are looking for a certain type of individual for EA acceptance. I think the academic stats are important to some extent - I don't know this for certain but my hunch is extracurriculars - especially service oriented activities, essay, and recommendations carry quite a bit of weight in the EA decision which can counterbalance the stats to some extent. You still need to be in the range for stats but perhaps the other areas carry more weight for EA.

I agree that first in class ranking is an asset. 800 of the 1900+ freshman were in the top 5 of their class (not 5% but top 5).

Good luck!

thanks for answering
for a while i was doubting my chances but you really revived my spirits
