Chances Early Decision?

Cornell's Applied Economics and Management (AEM) has everything I am looking for. It is the culmination of a beautiful campus and the education that draws me to Cornell. Here are my stats:

GPA- 3.92 (unweighted)

Ranked- 8 out of 1473; 99%tile

SAT- Math: 710 Critical Reading: 620 Writing: 680 = 2010/2400 (1330/1600)

SAT Subject Tests- Math Level 1: 710 Chemistry: 750 Biology: 670

APs (so far)- Biology:5 Chemistry:expecting a 4 or 5 US History:expecting a 2 or 3

Classes- These are the APs I either have taken or will be taking senior year: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, US History, US Government (Political Science), English. For senior year math I will be taking Regular Calculus.

EC- Hundreds of hours of volunteer work; a number of awards including placement in citywide (NYC) and statewide science olympics, science and history fairs, perfect attendance for 7 years; during the summer I have been doing scientific research as part of a program through the local college; I am a paper boy; I hold office in a number of clubs and organizations including the Italian American Culture Club and National Honor Society. I also was the overall director in the biggest student run production (led over 300 students to produce a play).

I was planning to apply Early Decision to the AEM program.

How are my chances of the AEM program? Is there anything else I should do/change/add on to?

Please be honest. Thanks for all of you input.

Your SAT2 scores are very weak. SAT score is probably fine, although verbal is kinda low. history 2 or 3?? ouch. luckily colleges dont really look at ap scores or you'd be torched for not being able to pass a college course.

is this a joke? for your ecs you put: perfect attendance for 7 years!! colleges don't give a damn about that and they will think that you're getting the other kids sick.

being a director of a show though is really nice and if you emphasize that it can play out as a great 'hook' EC.

In my opinion, apply to Cornell ED but don't fall in love w/the school. I definately think you have a chance, but honestly, I think it is a small one. Look hard for alternative solutions where your application will be more competitive. Great schools that might interest you: UVA, Michigan, NYU,Carnegie Mellon.

how is a 710, 750, and 670 "very weak"? thats a huge exaggeration.

Those SAT scores are fine, in my opinion, and you have a decent shot.

Sometimes U Should Be More Conservative About Ur Chances...that Way U Cam Work Out Everything Just Better...

Louis558,

Even though, your test grades are slightly below Cornell average, I do think you have a very good chance of getting into AEM. First of all, as a NY resident, it will help you out a lot when you apply as under ED. It sounds like your are from NYC, unless you are from the specialized high schools, your grade should be far above your classmates at your high school. You have the leadership skill and motivation. As long as you can back it up on your essay and demonstrate your interested in business, I believe you have a really good chance. Anyway, good luck.

Thanks ecc--

The only thing I am scared about are my SAT scores. I think that everything else is fine.
ECC I was hoping that we could chat privately. Please email me at Louis558@hotmail.com. I would appreciate that.

Thanks again, Louis

My math scores arent terrible...i was in the 95%tile...i would think that they would have a difficult time overlooking my critical reading.
