what say the masses? be blunt and be honest. thanks guys.

interesting how the editor of the #5 best high school newspaper only has a 600 in writing on the sats. I'm guessing you go to a rich prep like harker that packages their students. how many editors does your paper have? If you did not have the reputation of the school behind you, you would have very little chance. I'm guessing your school is pretty expensive like 20k or more. Maybe you'll get in if your school's reputation is that good.

you know the right people go to a good prep school and have all the stuff you need to go to a place like penn. you would be the run of the mill ivy league candidate, nothing that really makes you different... still id say youd prolly get in.

You'll get in.

yeah the 620 is kinda embarrassing, i dont really understand it. my adviser looked over my essay (which got an 8 ew) and said it was well written as an english paper but not as an SAT essay. do schools look at the writing section that much any way?

thanks guys. anyone else?

Penn weights the Writing section the same as CR and M, so that 620 is definitely gonna hurt... Only gives you a 2170 overall.

I'm Feature Editor of my school's newspaper, and I got an 800 on Writing. It's weird that you got a 620...

hm...well the SAT writing is basically formulaic and not a representation of one's writing ability. ive won countless writing awards, and im sure you have as well, so i think that those will count more on our applications than this score. congrats on the 800 though!

Colleges will see that as a glaring discrepancy though. Whether or not you personally consider the writing to be an accurate assessment doesn't matter

im EIC as well and got 740WR....

it is NOT formulaic. The essay may be but that is ONLY 25-30 percent and its not always formulaic.

okay fair enough. but will it make or break me?

well 620 indicates some difficulty with basic grammar and such, which kind of discounts your position as editor. It's like if the school's best mathematician had trouble doing double digit multiplication. Makes you wonder if he is that good.

the better analogy is this guy
president of Mu Alpha theta
head of math club
captain of math team

SAT I M 600, V 700
SAT MATH level II 630

Haha, I'm Pres of Math Club and Capt of Math Team.

But yeah, my scores actually reflect that (790 SAT I, 740 SAT II).

And Gyros, the Writing mult-ch is totally formulaic. I got an 800, and I can totally say that nearly every practice test is the same types of questions, repeated over and over. My essay wasn't even that good (9), but b/c I had done so many mult-ch questions, I knew exactly what was coming and aced it.

hey what GPA would the valedectorian at your school have?

last year was 4.3
