CHANCES ED II at CIT

Hi my stats are

International student at international school

SAT 1300 ( V 600 M 700 )

SAT II ( M IIC 700 PHYS 650 WRITING 640 ) retaking in jan

GPA 3.6

school does not rank but im in top 10 %

Courses : 4 IB HL's MATH , PHYS , ENG , COMP SCI
2 IB SL ECON , FRENCH

EC's - tons of ec's including research at prestigious univeristy , varsity ball

5 languages and no financial aid required

DO you think i have a chance at CIT comp engg

you might get into CIT but not into Electrical or computer engineering....you can always switch out later

ive aldready sent my app in for electrical and comp should i call them up and change it or is it too late to make a diffrence ?

yes, i have the same question, with higher satI score (780M/630V) and 780 IIC, 630 Phys(retaking jan but this is what they'll see for ed II), writ 620
3.8 UW GPA/ 4.0 UW gpa not including freshman yr

9/450 overall rank

just like he said, i know that i do stand a chance at elec and comp engin CIT but not sure is there any way i could change (they might have started reviewing apps, or just wait and see?)

hi divraj and sp33d12,
ECE is the most difficult program in CMU. So both of you have a better chance in other engineering schools. are both of u applying ED 2 and international? CMU loves intl students and u have a real good chance in CIT but not for ECE. I would say u guys have a good chance because there rnt many students applying ED2 to CMU because of them not offering financial aid.
all u need to do to change majors is to call their admissions office and give them ur PIN. then u can request them to change ur major..its not too late as they would have just started receivign ur transcripts + recs.. anyway, good luck guys.

im not intl, but english is not my native language, why do you say i don't have a chance at ECE my only bad score considering this is the SAT II phys, but the great phys teahcer rec, taking all AP physics classes offered at my HS might make up for it maybe? if you really think that i have a super slim chance, i might consider calling them...

sp33d12,
considering english is not ur native language, u probably have a good chance. u also have a good math 2c score. so u will be ok considering ur applying ED 2.. but still remember that ECE is very very competitive. im not trying to discourage u.. im just telling u abt the harsh realities.. however, i sincerely hope u get in! good luck...

thank you very much billemos

anyone else?

junior, now...(maybe CMU ECE ED next year)

if i had a 2.6 gpa uw freshman/soph year (family problems), but a 4.0uw gpa 11th/12th grade(top 10 public hs in the country, all honors/ap) is that ok for ECE?
212psats, national sience olympiad awards and tsa awards including a 1st place national award for an electronic heart monitor with lcd/memory. nominated in a local magazine (from philadelphia) as one of the regions "top inivators" along with several CEOs).

officer of science olympiad all 4 years (7th place nationally overall), founded engineering/TSA club freshman year- officer all four years, founding president of FIRST robotics)

i will also be doing research this summer at princeton/penn labs for a westinghouse/intel entry senior year.

starbot,
i would advise u to advise a bigger 'reach' for Early Decision. may be MIT or stanford. you have a very very good chance in ECE even regular D. good luck!

thanks, how is the engineering program at princeton? (a parent works there, so i have a very good chance there).

I'm specifically looking at electrical engineering, i do have to look at mit a little more, though.

Princeton is not known for its engineering program like its known for its other programs. Having said that, it is something if you graduate out of princeton. you obviously have a other have a very good chance considering ull be doing research and u have a parent working there.
Princeton receives a lot of 1500+ SAT's, what really makes the difference would be what else u have in ur package. You have everything else going for you, make sure u do well in ur SAT. make sure u address the reason for ur 2.6 gpa in an essay. good luck startbot!

thanks for all your help man! just one last question, i'm really dedicated to electrical engineering (although i love mechanical also) would you recommend cmu over princeton for undergraduate study in EE?
obviously mit would trump both, correct?

CMU is better than Princeton in EE, but Princeton is more prestigious overall.
MIT is definitely better than both.
