please let me know what you think my chances are! thanks!

Do you think it is worth it to take the SATs once more? I am not sure how much they would go up, and I think that it is more important to focus on my essays. Do you think that slightly higher SAT scores would make a significant difference in whether i am accepted?

ED, I'd say you have a pretty good shot--in the middle of the pack. Still, the prep school thing might drag down your stats in the eyes of the Adcom.

But at this point, I'd say test scores will not be the issue. The issue will be personality and points of interest. Your test scores will neither help you nor hurt you, at this point.

if she cannot get in with a 4.0.....then what does it take to get in with anything less...like is it possible to get in with a 3.7....what do you think is the minimum to stay competitive?

As long as it won't take away from writing interesting essays, I would say taking the SAT over won't hurt and could help. Where you are now, the SATs aren't getting you in or keeping you out, but 60-80 points higher could start helping you to get in.
