Hey everyone! I would really appreciate some honest feedback on my stats and what you think my chances are of getting in at these two schools Early Decision, which is where I plan to apply. (Vanderbilt EDI and John Hopkins EDII if Vandy doesn't come through) Thanks so much!!

(I will do everything in my power to make all A's Sr. yr. -- if I do, I will be Salutatorian)
(Also note: Junior yr lowest grade is 97 [only made that low once].. not sure if that counts for something)
This gives me a total of 10 Honors or above honors courses.
Will have a total of 5 sciences and 4 maths by end of next yr.
Varsity Swimming three yrs... a school record was won.
Job over summer and Sr yr
TN Governor's School 2006
TN Volunteer Girls State Delegate (won and elected a Senator's position [only 20 awarded out of 500+ girls])
Clubs by end of next yr will include: Mu Alpha Theta, National Honors Society, Student Council, Historical Society, Thesbian, Spanish, Science, Interact, Beta, Beta Epsilon
ACT score: First time = 27, Second time = 27 too! Everything went up several points but science, which for some reason plumated. Hopefully a 30 in Oct. I'mma get a ACT tutor and study like no other.

Volunteer at a Nursing Home, but not the typical 100+ hours yet... I'm working on it. So little time anymore.

I'm good at essays, so counting on essay to be good.
Student of Month twice, Soph & Junior academic award, etc.
Major: I want to go pre-med, w/ a major of Chemistry and a minor in Psychology.

Any perspective would be greatly appreciated.

I forgot to add that this summer at Gov. School I completed two college level courses. History of Tennessee (HIST 2030) and Historical Geology (GEOL 1050) and recieved an A in both.

In addition, I got the lead role in a theatre preformance in Drama, and am hoping to be equally as lucky in the upcoming Musical this year.

Bump......

need SAT scores

also sense grade inflation because you have high grades but low standardized test score (ACT)

Also only 2 APs? tsk tsk...

Don't think you have a chance ED

What happened to the other parent?

No grae inflation. I did take 4 practice tests and made a 30 on three and a 29 on one... I just keep getting nervous, however, on the June test I was at Gov. School and had a midterm the next day, so I only got 4 hrs of sleep.

There are only 5 AP's offered at my school, and two of them I couldn't take b/c of scheduling problems, and the other was AP Eng and we just lost our Eng teacher to cancer and no one knows who the teacher is going to be... a little to risky for me with already Physics AP and Chem AP, which are both really hard because we offer so few.

And my dad died when I was five. Mom never re-married etc. and has been sick with what he died of since then.

I will be taking SAT this year. Thanks for the reply

Anyone else have anything to add?

what has your mom been sick with?

JohnSSSSSSSSSS Hopkins. And I don't think they have EDII.

It's a form of staph -- a bacterial infection that goes to either your spine or brain and slowly developes and kills you. However, most of the infection was removed in earlier surgeries etc.

Scorp,
Hmm -- I will admit that was sort of an assumption on my part. I will call the admissions people.

You're in without a question at Vanderbilt. JHU chances are also high but make sure you do good on the SAT! 2100+ and they'll be begging for you. Seriously, I don't know why everyone is so harsh on this board...

I'm sorry about your mom and dad btw, great job getting through it and doing all this. congrats!

PS. get a leadership position at one of your clubs! and get rid of about two or three of the ones you're not really that into.

Thanks, that's really encouraging. I appreciate it. I will take the SAT and hopefully I'll manage a 2100+ That would be ideal. And I will try my hardest for leadership of some kind! & will drop a couple of clubs. Thanks again!

no problem! glad to help. ive seen people get into vandy with much lower stats than you and being from texas also helps.

jhu also doesnt get a lot of high high top ranked people because a lot of people use it as a "safety" when applying to ivies (it shouldn't, its an amazing school) so being 5th and going for ED is defenitly feasable for you.

good luck and keep being a trooper
