Chances (ED)

I am a triple legacy. My Mom went to the college of Arts and Sciences and majored in history. My Dad went to the college of Engineering and majored in Mechanical Engineering. My Grandfather went to Cornell Law. I have had great interest for this school since I was little, I ask you to base my 'chances' on the fact that I will be applying ED (significantly higher acceptance rate than RD). I will be applying to the College of Arts and Sciences, and intend to major in a pure science (not certain on this).

Should both be good; I am a very intellectual student, my recommenders are excellent; I will show a lot of interest and enthusiasm in my essays, as well as personal qualities.

Thats about it, up to midway through junior year. I have huge interest in Cornell, and would love for the opportinity to go there. Let me know if I am forgetting any thing.

What are my chances!

Triple legacy with ED; I would be amazed if you didn’t get in. Your grades and test scores are not amazing but they wont pull you down. Wish you best of luck!

ur so lucky…i have a 2310 and 4.0 and i dont think i have as good a chance as u…

would still try to get sat #'s higher, legacy or not
though ED statistics may be better, “chances” of admission are not necessarily dramatically different

Thanks for the imput. However, given my academic record, I would be one of the strongest applicants Cornell has had from my school. As I said, my school had a 40% acceptance rate (4/10) at Cornell last year. This year, it is currently at 67% (2 in, 1 deferred, 0 rejected; they were ED). I know for a fact my GPA is 0.15 higher than anyone who got in this year. So, in the context of my high school, I think my grades are great.

Do you guys recommend I definitely apply ED though if I don’t raise my SAT’s to 2100+?

Triple legacy?
Some people have all the luck
sighh
but anyways I’d put $100 on you getting in, I don’t see why not
and getting those sat scores up wouldn’t hurt either :D

Ok… just got new and better SAT scores:
Writing: 800
12 essay
80 MC
Math: 710
Reading: 650
Thats a 2160 up from a 2000. Re evaluate my chances!

^Sorry but Cornell doesn’t look at writing, but it’s still an increase

Regardless of whether Writing is looked at or not (I can’t imagine it being totally discounted), those scores are very good. When next year comes around, all you’ll really need is a good essay and you’re set. Make sure you get the advice of someone that is fairly intelligent and knows writing.

It is actually totally discounted.
