Hello, I applied on 1/10 to the University of Michigan college of Engineering and I was wondering what my chances were, I know it's late but could someone please put it in persepctive for me.

SAT: 770M + 760V (First time)
750M + 780V (Second time, I know lol)

SAT II: Physics 740
Math IC 750
Math IIC 800
Writing 780

GPA 4.0 on UMich Scale
Rank 13/519
Out of State -- New York

Essay was awesome, recs were great, EC's above average I think .... etc.

Anyway UMich was supposed to be my safety school but after reading the forums for a while I got really nervous. I never knew it got so much harder!

Michigan should never be viewed as a safety. It was never easy to get into. In the 80s, Michigan was as selective as most Ivy League schools. It has become less selective in recent years, but it remains relatively selective. And Michigan Engineering (and Business) is among the top 5 or 6 programs in the country, so it is even more selective than the rest of the university.

Still, you are as good as in. I would be seriously surprised if they rejected you. You have a realistic shot at the top 2 Engineering program in the nation (MIT and Stanford), so I would be shocked if you didn't get into Michigan.

Well, if Michigan is your first choice, start packin' bub...you are as good as in. A 1500+ SAT, 4.0 unweighed GPA and top 3% class rank is a virtual guarantee. Unless you proclaimed yourself a nazi, I cannot see how the university would reject someone with your stats.

UM denies admission based on one's advocation of policies characteristic of Nazism? And I thought they'd be thrilled at the diversity that would ensue from such an applicant!

Nop, you can't be a Nazi as that's perceived as being a racist. You may get stoned on campus...

However, you can be a Commie, host anti-government demonstrations, organize hash party in the DIAG... but you can expect equally vocal opinions from the other side. Btw, I am talking about 30 years ago.
