Bump! Please? Anyone?

When is the best time to visit?

late spring is probably the best time to visit as the admissions office will just be shifting its focus on your class. It's a little early to state your chances, especially b/c you havn't actually taken the SAT or ACT yet, but it seems like you are on the right track so far. Also, CMC and Pomona can be very different schools, as you will realize after you visit them both.

I know CMC and Pomona are different.. but "very" different? I kind of find that hard to believe.. i mean they share some programs and are right across the street from each other!

Is the atmosphere different at CMC?

Its not that they are super diifferrent, they just cater to slightly different groups. For example, if want to major in Econ, gov, or something of the like then CMC would probably better suit you. CMC is also slightly smaller, both in number of students and in actual physical size. Its not that the two schools are opposites, just that they have different 'feels'. You could very much still like them both, but I just wanted to point this out. Sorry about the confusion.

Pomona and CMC definitely have different feels to them. CMC is something of a specialty school-- most people major in something like econ, government, or international relations. That's not to say that there isn't a diversity of interests; students are involved in all kinds of activities from music to creative writing to competitive archery (yes I know a guy, he's trying out for the olympic team). It's just that I wouldn't recommend the school to someone who has absolutely no interest in either politics or business, just like I wouldn't recommend Harvey Mudd to someone without any interest in math or science.

Because of CMC's focus, its government and econ departments are usually considered stronger than Pomona's. In the end though it really comes down to fit. You'll have to go and look at the schools and try to figure out where you would be happier. Both offer excellent educations.

besides econ and gov, leadership is aldo a big theme at CMC.

Will my EC's and leadership help? I've heard Claremont cares a ton about leadership in the admissions process...

practice SATs/SAT IIs don't say anything. never speculate.

i got straight 800s on the practice SATs and SAT IIs then ended up getting 560 son each when i took it sophmore/junior year. luckily, i was able to get those way up. anyways, i suggest you take the SAT as soon as possible. try to experience the stress and the testing atmosphere. plus, if you go to a school like mine that doesn't teach for the SAT, the more experience = the better.

apart from that, leadership looks solid.

actually...try to get a job in today's more professional work force. for instance, apply for an internship at a prestigious company. i applied/called/annoyed an emmy-nominated production company in my area about an internship for two years. luckily, they gave it to me and the internship is now one of the main reasons i've been accepted into many of the schools i applied for EA. :P

i agree with what everyone else has said, but jsut to summarize:
yes, apply for an internship...big name or small. working for your state assemblyman will provide you with a better experience, while your us senator just has a bigger name. cmc knows that.
as far as visits, february or early april are good times. try to be on campus for a thursday night or a saturday night (fridays are usually busts). definitely stay overnight with someone (the admissions office sets it up).
cmc and pomona are VERY different, but can easily appeal to the same person. i was super conflicted about which one i liked more and had trouble decided which one to apply ED to...but cmc was definitely the right choice in the end.
