I’ve also received a super recommendation letter from my earth science teacher. She knows me very well and I was AWARDED the recommendation letter for outstanding performance and leadership in class. My Spanish teacher this year says I’m the “best student” so I will get a letter from her too. I hope to become really familiar with my guidance counselor as well, and my music teacher will write me a superb recommendation too.

haven't you already posted this here before?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=1402960#post1402960

just so you know, you won't find out about national merit status until the fall of senior year.

woo89: Please stop posting until the end of your junior year or the beginning of your senior year. Just focus on what you need to do to make you stand out of your applicant pool. Or you will spend too much time here and reduce your chance in Yale. You know, if you don't waste your time posting the same thread over and over, you would do better and add more to your application. So, please stop.

yo give the kid a break, its tempting for juniors. woo89 - you obviously care alot about music and its definitely great that you've won stuff and distinguished yourself. just be aware that when you're applying with a focus on a special talent like music, you're throwing yourself into a pool of highly competitive people who are also extremely gifted at music. that's why its hard to evaluate chances, because you distinguished yourself in long island but we all have no idea if theres some person in PA that plays for a huge, travelling orchestra that has national acclaim.
so its okay to post and ask questions but as far as realistic evaluations, only the admissions people know the full story, all we can do is guess.

I'm not trying to be mean or stop him from posting here. It just annoys me to see his same thread over and over and over and over without any change.

writing an essay about music is... how does one say? O yes, not a good idea. Unless you are going to write the absolute best of all time life changing music essay. It just so turns out that a very good percentage of ivy applicants are very musically gifted and accomplished. While this was special in high school among groups of people who did not play music, writing about music does not make one stand out here... at all. and..... YOU'RE A JUNOIR, STOP STRESSING OUT! THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO NOW EXCEPT STUDY FOR SAT'S (WHICH REALLY DON'T MATTER AS LONG AS YOU GET ABOVE 2000), AND KEEP GETTING GOOD GRADES!!!!!!!!

SAT's dont matter as long as you get above 2000...

hmm, you mean someone with 2330 is roughly the same as someone getting 2030, everything else being equal ? Or even 2230 is no different than 2030 ?

Agree that writing about your love of music is so common, already evident in your EC, unless you intend to study music.

Hmm... deja vu...

I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea to write about music if you've got a unique slant on it. For example, I talked about my favorite piece of music and my favorite book and how they represent my outlook on life. I'm planning on a double major in english and music so I think it conveyed my personality and interests pretty well.

i think u have low chance
the reason why your avg is high maybe because of grade inflation at ur school
this is evident in your sats and sat2s
raise your test scores and id say you have a fair chance

Scores aren't everything, even at Yale.

i disagree with some of the things said above...
I think that your EC's are incredible. Your school probably experiences some grade inflation, but you can pull up your test scores and noone will be the wiser. I think that if you chose to write about music, you will have to work harder to make your essay unique... On the other hand, music is very clearly your passion, and I'd say you would write the best essay about something you are passionate about. Also, I am a junior as well, and I think that it is just fine that we are stressing out about getting into college, and it is certainly not too early to start...

How are you going to get this all on your applicatioN?
because it ain't gonna fit and not everything you mentioned is necessarily worth mentioning.

Your chances are quite low. As another poster already said, many applicants to Ivies are good at music, and while you look very good, there is always someone better. My advice is to improve your grades and test scores so you're not relying on the cello to get you in.

Wow, way to be completely off base. Why would you say such a thing? The "always someone better" logic obviously can't apply, or else the class would consist solely of concert-master, valedictorians with 2400's.

i must sasy you hsave plenty of music extracurricular activites. good luck

Asian male, lol.

What are you planning to major in?

i actually am interested in majoring in the sciences, maybe become a college professor for a science field. music will probably be my minor, even though i have passion for music. the music world is so competitive.
