Chances Fall 2012 - also need some advice

Hi guys, I have posted here before but now I decided on where to apply and even started doing it so i'll post my stats. Advice and guidance is very much appreciated :)

Applying to:
NYU
Fordham
Columbia
Barnard
American
George Washington

Very much into politics / international affairs - my major.

Currently at a CC - second semester Freshman
30 credits
3.86 GPA
2 leadership positions:
President of Amnesty International
Vice President of PeaceWork - student run activism group on campus
Member of other groups such as MSA, Political Science Organization, NYPIRG, Honors Club, Phi Theta Kappa, made Deans List

Communications manager at an up and coming NGO for Human Rights

High school was bad. 2.7 gpa, 1470 sats all combined =X don't wanna take them again.

AP student in HS, went to 4 different HS's, suffered depression and a whole lot of other family problems and gave up on school, I knew I couldnt fix my grades again so I was like eff it I wanna go to college and start over because I know I can do well.

NYU, Fordham, American, GW don't require SATs after 30 credits. American and GW dont require HS transcript either.

I am also now contemplating leaving NY - friends and family if I get into a school in DC. I really want to do IR and all that and I know DC has great opportunities but GW is very expensive. NYU has IR but it's an honors major and I'm guaranteed a spot.
Columbia doesn't either but I can have IR as a concentration to the Poli Sci major - same thing with Barnard.

Please chance and tell me what you think I should do.

I also havent started my essay, yeah like I said I'm a bit behind. Is there anyone willing to help me with the supplements and essay? Barnard's supplements are intense!

I’m NOT guaranteed a spot at NYU for IR. Whoops my bad

BUMPP

393 views. C’mon someone has to reply lol please

Your stats are good man. You’ll get into most of those schools.

Thank you for replying! I have been waiting for someone to reply!

My concern is what do you think about Barnard and Columbia since they will look at my HS grades and SATs? And the 1470 is all 3 portions not just cr & math. I know someone here before said to me that it’s interesting how my sats are so low but I did really well in college.

I really don’t want to stay at my CC and want to leave ASAP. I’m leaning alot towards Columbia and Barnard now but I know my past will weaken my app. I feel like 30 credits may not be alot for them to look at and judge by. It would be stupid to go to NYU then transfer to Columbia. Don’t you think? I would be fine with just sending my HS transcript because I’m sending that to NYU and Fordham - they could def. see growth.

BUMPPPPP. so many views, so little replies! :(

Its pretty interesting because i have about the same stats as you 1430 sat and about 2.2 gpa in highschool but 3.76 in 60 (diverse and strong) credits.I feel like Columbia would be near impossible and Barnard would be a short reach/match.I am also applying to columbia but i feel for me its also gonna be a crap shoot but we will see how it goes.

Maybe you could apply to Notre Dame like I did, and then when we are both there we can bash our high schools together.

Yeah I know Columbia is a longggggshot, almost impossible, would take a miracle for that.

Lol tomjennings, I’m down for that haha.

somebeast - have you done the Columbia supplement yet? I’m confused on the “List the required readings you enjoyed most in the past year” because in my classes we just used textbooks and anthologies and I don’t think that’s a good look to put those. My aunt is an IR professor, should I just use books she has as “required” I doubt anyone will check.

I think you have a good shot at all of them, except Columbia, which is a high reach. With 30 credits, they’ll still look at your HS records.

As for the required readings, you probably should just expand the timeframe to several years then.
