where are you from in Canada? I'm from vancouver. I think you should also add U of T if you are looking at Mcgill. UT is ranked #19 worldwide. It's an outstanding school.

im from montreal but ive got tons of familia in to. yeah ill def look at UT, maybe macmaster as well.

supermang786:

UCLA: Slight Reach (out of state)

I would add a couple more high matches like Emory, Georgetown, Tufts, etc.

slipper: ill add tufts to the list, its on the common app so i might as well. how about MIT or harvard? are they out of the question in this case?

another question: if my goal is acceptance to the ivies like brown, harvard, upenn and mit, should i retake my SAT, keep the current score, or wait until my ACT score comes in?

With a 1920, you can drop Harvard, MIT, and Rice. UPenn and Brown are questionable too. You will also need 3 SAT IIs over 700 at least.

sats are low for harvard and mit (especially because you are an indian male which messes you up alot). the truth is SATs and GPA mean the most when applying to colleges because if they are not up to par (and you arent an athlete or URM or big legacy) you will not get in no matter how great eveything else is because harvard and mit will have kids with the scores and the ECs and essays and recs. your GPA is amazing tho and your rank will make up for a sub par SAT (which is what you have when looking at ivys). That changes if your ACT is 32+. I would also take one more SATII in november just incase.

You also seem to not have many awards including but not limited to: science fair placements, or placement in essay competitions which lots of harvard applicants have.

Also, if you are a senior, dont mention anything before 9th grade which would be 2003.

Finally, unless your school does not offer 12th grade english, even if it is not AP, you should take it at school because colleges dont want you to take CC classes instead of HS ones, only if the class isnt offered at HS. I'm guesing you are taking more than 3 classes right. And if you finnished math and french, you should have taken them in CC over english (unless you maxed them out in CC too).

Take what i say, but still apply if harvard and mit are where you want to go because what do i know? I'm only a highschool kid.

bandit conviced me to redo my SAT... im blushing now.

my eng 101/102 class is dual enrollment. thanks for clarifying how to present that to a college. yep french and calculus are maxed out at both school and cc but i may self study the french AP test.

havent heard of any science fairs for hs kids here is az, but i would have loved to do something. if it counts for anything, my car is my science project for which i have pieced togher and installed a turbocharger and relevant accesories. converting a motor from naturally aspirated to forced induction isnt cake.

now that you clarified your english situation, i guess that the only thing that is in your hands would be to score well on the ACt becuase if you do well, the SAT doesnt matter. also, for Penn the ACT = SATIIs + SAT. The rest of your stats seem very good. take the SATII french instead of the AP french exam because an 800 gets you similar credit as a 5, and colleges will see the score when you apply instead of after you get in. Write essays about you & your car and your political ties.

ttt anyone else?

No chance at Harvard, even with a 2350, so don't waste the EA. Up the SAT at least 200 points and ED Penn.

1920 is pretty bad. Below average for every school except No. 7, Arizona. Go study up the ACT and as others said hit that 32 and up.

Drop MIT for sure, they require 3 SAT IIs, IIRC, and all of them should be math and science and need to own, 750+. Just drop MIT.
